The Hulk's greatest tragedy could have been prevented, but a surprising MCU ally, Miek, betrayed him by keeping vital information about a devastating attack private so that the deadliest Hulk could be unleashed. In World War Hulk from Marvel Comics, it's revealed Miek, an insect-like alien from the planet Skaar, intentionally withheld info about seeing Red King's forces planting an explosive that killed the Jade Giant's family, people, and new home. It remains one of the most devastating betrayals in comics.
Miek is a fan-favorite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the bug-like creature was introduced in Thor: Ragnarok as a blade-wielding ally to Thor, Korg, and Valkyrie. Miek's journey in the MCU featured the hero fighting alongside Thor and the Asgardian's allies against Hela. Korg accidentally killed him only to realize he was still alive, and later, he made his arrival to Earth and lived with the God of Thunder during his depressive episodes. However, in the comics, Miek's story is much darker, as the enslaved insectoid-alien ed the Hulk as one of the Warbound, watched his Queen die, and ended up betraying the Hulk after being one of his closest allies in an incredibly shocking reveal.
In Planet Hulk by Greg Pak, Carlo Pagulayan, Jeffrey Huet, Chris Sotomayor, and VC's Joe Caramagna, Hulk has liberated Skaar from the Red King and become the new Green King alongside his partner Caiera Olstrong. The Jade Giant has turned the planet into a mini paradise, as its people are free, vegetation has become lush, and things have finally become peaceful. However, Hulk's planet is ravaged by an explosion that kills his partner and people and rips his world apart. Believing the Illuminati were responsible for the mass death, Hulk heads back to Earth in World War Hulk, but upon taking on his fellow heroes, he learns the casualties and devastation could have been prevented, but that Miek betrayed him.
Hulk smashes his MCU ally in the comics, as the insect-creature reveals that Hulk was made to make people pay and he didn't want him to stop now that he found peace on Sakaar. So, Miek didn't intervene when he was the Red King's forces plan an unstable warp core on the Illuminati's shuttle, which exploded and destroyed Sakaar and its people. Miek wanted Hulk to be the world breaker, not a pacifist, as he believed the Green King could never find peace because of who he is.
For fans of the MCU who only know Miek as a silly, adorable insect alien willing to help his best friends Thor and Korg, the betrayal might come as a surprise. But, throughout Planet Hulk and World War Hulk, Miek wanted to see Hulk embrace his true nature, even if it meant killing his entire family and tricking him into believing the Illuminati were responsible. As far as betrayals go, Miek's might be the worst Hulk ever faced - especially at the hands of someone who was supposed to be his friend.
