release of WoW’s newest expansion, Dragonflight.
One of WoW’s biggest aspects is its class system. When players begin the game, they start off by choosing from one of many character classes that essentially dictate how their character will feel and perform in combat. Unlike other MMOs (like Final Fantasy XIV, where players can unlock all classes on just one character), World of Warcraft limits each character to just one class. Players who want to experience how other classes play have to create entirely new characters and level them up all over again. For players with a large number of these alts, it can be tedious to have to constantly replay the same quests over and over again just to experience different a playstyle.
According to new approach to leveling alts with the release of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. Game director Ion Hazzikostas and lead narrative writer Steve Dan confirmed via a Twitter Space Q&A that progression in WoW’s newest expansion would be -wide and no longer tied down to one single character. Almost all progress (excluding individual quest rewards) that players make in the new expansion will be tied to their , meaning that alts will no longer have to go through the new story to reach the endgame content (though it is optional).
The -wide progression system is something that fans have been requesting for years and is huge news for players with multiple alts. Instead of having to grind the same quests repeatedly on different characters, players will have the option to skip right to Dragonflight’s endgame content and play the new raids with different classes – all hassle-free. The new system is also welcoming to new players who are used to playing on just one character, as it incentivizes people to create alts and try new classes without the fear of having to waste time playing story content that they have already experienced on their main character.
The news of -wide progression is just one big change that Blizzard is implementing with Dragonflight. When the new expansion comes out, players will have plenty to look forward to, such as new UI customization options, revamped skill trees, a new flight mechanic, and more. While World of Warcraft: Dragonflight does not have an official release date, Blizzard has promised more news on the expansion later this year.
World of Warcraft is available on PC and Mac.
