cool new mounts to The War Within.
One of the more debated additions of The War Within was the new Earthen Allied Race. They were created by the Titans and some later evolved into the Dwarfs players are used to today. They bring a more monotone and robotic attitude to Azeroth while being able to play nine of the current classes. However, the big question around them is whether the MMO needs a third playable Dwarf race.
Why The Harronir Should Have Been The Allied Race
Harronir Make More Sense Than Earthen
Instead of the Earthen, the Harronir would have made a much better Allied Race. Not only would they be more unique than the Earthen, but they could add more class features. Players have already pointed out how their connection to nature and Druid abilities could change the class. The most obvious is some form of bat, as that is already a shapeshifting ability they have been shown to have.
If Blizzard wanted to continue the partnership of these two factions, it would've felt better to have a race that could connect to both sides better, like the Harronir.
Another reason for this, which plays into a bigger issue between the two factions, is keeping the theme. The Alliance has always had the more humanoid races, with some exceptions, whereas the Horde are more monster-like, so having what is essentially a Dwarf race both sides feels off. If Blizzard wanted to continue the partnership of these two factions, it would've felt better to have a race that could connect to both sides better, like the Harronir.
Who Are The Harronir In World of Warcraft?
The Shadows Of Khaz Algar
The Harronir are a race of seemingly hybrid Night Elves and Trolls that live deep in Khaz Algar. They are a spiritually religious race that is known to have little to no interaction with those outside their species. Due to that, not much is known about the Harronir outside their Druid abilities and duty to protect the Great Roots that spread out across their home region of Azj-Kahet.
Though it is understandable given that the story largely focuses on how the Earthen that became the Allied Race, it doesn't fit the theme of WoW. This theme has continued to get muddy as a world built around a large Faction war, which was appealing to many, has become less competitive.
Though this might tell a nice story for WoW's future expansions and roap, it hampers certain aspects of the game. Regardless, if the developers did want to continue with this plan, the Harronir Allied Race would have made World of Warcraft: The War Within a better product.
