With the release of WWE 2K22 on March 11, players can expect to experience a fresh wrestling genre with some revamped game modes; however, some features that fans have asked for haven’t been added. This new iteration in the franchise aimed to overhaul the game’s graphics and gameplay style, and it has the intent to be different. Compared to the launch of WWE 2K20, it appears that 2K Games is trying to learn from its past mistakes with one fix at a time.

Even with a majority of fan-requested features that weren’t added into the title, game modes such as MyCareer have been revamped as MyRISE, and Universe mode comes back with new additions as well. The WWE 2K22 MyFACTION mode makes an appearance that is similar to the mobile game WWE Supercard, as players collect superstars in the form of cards and build a team of superstars. MyGM mode also makes its long-awaited return to the series allowing players to manage and compete against other WWE shows such as RAW and NXT. However, the voices of fans weren’t heard after suggestions were offered after the launch of WWE 2K20.

After the upset that the previous title had gone through, 2K Games published the WWE 2K20 Project, which allowed players to go on a forum to make suggestions and opinions based on certain aspects of the title. One of those changes was to add interactive scenes and promos to WWE 2K22’s Universe mode, along with players being able to create their own stories for different superstars or divas. Even after the project received around a total of 240 requests and changes to be made to the next game, almost little to none got added into the game.

A wide variety of matches were suggested, but WWE 2K22 features no new additions. Matches such as Inferno, I Quit, Buried Alive, and even Special Guest Referee were some of the game modes that fans wanted to see make a return. In regards to game modes, it’s nice to see MyGM make a comeback, but this time around it lacks some features that were present in the older iterations.

The biggest upset that fans will have is that instead of adding more suggested WWE superstars, divas, and legends to the already existing roster, several wrestlers in WWE 2K22 have been cut from the game’s roster entirely. Over the past year, the WWE has been letting superstars go left and right, causing some concerns for who would make the cut to be on the title’s roster this year. In the end, 35 wrestlers who are no longer with the company remain playable in WWE 2K22.

It can be disappointing to know that given to last year's iteration has been widely ignored. If anything, the combat system was also a concern that fans expressed needed to change, which 2K Games eventually realized. However, the title has undergone several other changes in its effort to make a comeback, making WWE 2K22 an anticipated release for March 2022.
