WWE 2K25 is introducing an exciting new mode when it launches this month, but it comes with a huge caveat that will prevent some fans from being able to enjoy it. As the eleventh entry in the WWE 2K series, WWE 2K25 will introduce a slew of new features, improvements, and, of course, a whole new roster of WWE superstars to play as and manage.

The centerpiece of the game's offerings is The Island, a multifaceted new mode that looks to be a core part of both the single-player and multiplayer components of WWE 2K25. As intriguing as the mode seems, it comes with one major limitation that means a large number of players won't be able to even play it, and it all comes down to what hardware you're playing the game on.

WWE 2K25's The Island Is A New Mode

A Single-Player Campaign Combined With A Multiplayer Hub

The Island is a main game mode making its debut in WWE 2K25 that promises "a brand new way to experience WWE 2K." Once you've made your own character in the game's MySUPERSTAR builder, you'll be able to take your customized wrestler into The Island, a freely explorable WWE-themed world divided into four distinct districts. Within each district, you'll be able to accept quests, buy gear, and compete against NPC rivals in matches to earn XP and VC that help advance your character as you progress through a multi-chapter storyline to earn the favor of Roman Reigns.

District Name

Hero HQ

Heroes and villains

Arcade of Tomorrow

Temple of Ancestors

Lucha and wrestling legends

The Deadlands

Horror and supernatural characters

In addition to providing an extensive single-player campaign, The Island will also serve as a multiplayer hub, as players can explore alongside friends on the same server and jump directly into online PvP matches. All progress in The Island feeds into the other modes of WWE 2K25 — both PvE and PvP matches will help level up your custom superstar, and any gear you unlock in The Island will become available in the rest of the game as well. It all sounds like a very full-featured package, which makes it doubly unfortunate that the mode won't be available to all players.

The Island Is Only Available On New Gen Consoles

The New Mode Is Exclusive To PS5 & Xbox Series X/S

WWE 2K25 Roman Reigns

WWE 2K25 will be a cross-generation release, launching on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Presumably due to hardware limitations, The Island will only be available on the PS5 and Series X/S versions of the game. While this means that the mode won't be playable on PS4 and Xbox One, it also means that PC players will be missing out on The Island as well.

WWE 2K25 Season DLC Roap: Dates, Packs, & Which Characters Will Be Added

WWE 2K25 has announced five DLC packs for 2025, introducing over 20 new playable characters over the course of the year. Here’s who to expect.

This will ultimately exclude a large portion of the WWE 2K25 playerbase, considering that sales of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S still have yet to catch up to their predecessors and that PC gamers will be left out in the cold entirely. While it may be a symptom of the march of progress, it's also a bitter pill to swallow for WWE fans who won't get a chance to experience what looks like one of the most unique experiences in the series to date when WWE 2K25 comes out.
