After weeks of releasing gorgeous Disney animation-inspired redesigns of the X-Men, Avengers, and other iconic Marvel characters, the incredible artist Mark Brooks has finally turned his amazing "fanart" into official Marvel variant covers. From beloved duos like the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver to villains like Mister Sinister and Sabretooth, Mark Brooks "Animated-Style" variant cover series is paving the way forward for a potential new wave of Marvel animation.
Mark Brooks, who is no stranger to X-Men redesigns, started his Disney x Marvel fanart series months ago, to immediately positive response from both fans and fellow artists.
Marvel's announcement of Mark Brooks' adorable and instantly iconic Animated-Style Variant Covers revealed all 26 covers, spanning the entire Marvel line of comics and highlighting a whopping total of 54 beloved Marvel characters, including X-Men favorites like Magik, Emma Frost, and Jean Grey.
The Animated-Style Covers Really Put The "Disney" Into Marvel Comics
An animated Marvel TV show in this style would look amazing
Mark Brooks' has illustrated over 200 redesigns of beloved Marvel characters, both heroes and villains, over the past year, and these variant cover only depict 54 of his characters. Originally calling the art "Disneyfied Marvel," the official title is now "Animated-Style," which has now got a cool custom logo to go on each cover. The majority of the characters shown are X-Men related - including fierce villains like Mister Sinister and Mojo - because there are more X-Men books currently than any other Marvel franchise.
"I have so many more to show and even more that I want to draw. I couldn't be more thrilled to see them grace the covers of some of my favorite books and hope the audience enjoys collecting them as much as I did creating them!"
Brooks' art turns some of Marvel's most serious characters, like Hulk and Thanos, into truly adorable, bright-eyed cartoons, inspired by classic Disney art. With huge eyes, bright colors, and cartoonish poses, these Animated-Style redesigns beg the question, "Now that Disney owns Marvel, why hasn't there been a TV show made in this style?!" Not only is the style incredibly nostalgic, especially because Brooks placed some of the characters - like Synch, Storm, and the Scarlet Witch - into classic costumes, but the overly expressive characterization is perfect for the drama of Marvel comics. Some highlights of the art are Colossus posed like Gaston from Beauty & the Beast, the adorable Lockheed, and how epic the X-Men hero Chamber looks.
Mark Brooks Promises More Covers Are Coming Depending On Response
So if you want more, make sure to pick these up
On X, Mark Brooks' reports that "If these are a hit, there'll be a lot more," which is no surprise seeing as how he still has over 150 characters that he could place onto variant covers! Plus, Brooks is still releasing new Animated-Style redesigns every few days, with his latest creation being a gorgeous redesign of Wiccan, which pairs perfectly with the character's recent debut in Agatha All Along. From beloved heroes like Iceman and Jubilee to fierce villains like the Shadow King and Arcade, these Animated-Style variant covers could pretty much go on forever.
While Mark Brook's "Disneyfied" X-Men art started out as a personal project, it is so exciting to see this creative "fanart" turned into official Marvel Comics variant covers, and hopefully even more are revealed in the near future.
