Warning: contains spoilers for Wolverine: Revenge #5The X-Men will always be a franchise filled with family drama and constant tragedy, perfectly exemplified by the son of the great Colossus coming after Logan in Wolverine: Revenge #5, hellbent on avenging his slain father. Nikolai Rasputin, named after Colossus and Magik's human father, is the deadly synthesis between his father and aunt, a powerful legacy character that will hopefully appear again in Marvel Comics.

Debuting in Wolverine: Revenge #4, Nikolai has an unreserved hatred for Logan, who murdered his father Colossus, leading to him partnering with the vile Sabretooth to enact revenge on his father's killer.

Wolverine: Revenge #5, from writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Greg Capullo, is the final chapter of Wolverine's tragic tale of revenge, which sees Nikolai using his aunt's Soulsword to banish Logan to Limbo, seemingly avenging his father Colossus, allowing the young mutant to finally move on.

The world of Wolverine: Revenge takes place in a dark future where Magneto's death caused a worldwide EMP blast, killing millions of people after descending the world into permanent darkness. A new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants like Mastermind, Omega Red, and Sabertooth recruited Colossus to their side to protect a Russian power source that Wolverine was attempting to retrieve. This group of evil mutants murdered Logan's teammates, including Captain America, which led Wolverine on a decades-long revenge tour, including killing Colossus in a tragic battle. Unsurprisingly, Piotr's son Nikolai has harbored great anger and resentment to Logan since, growing up under the car of his aunt Illyana.

Nikolai was born with the same inate mutant ability as his father Colossus, organic metal flesh and superhuman strength. Interestingly, Nikolai's organic skin is smooth and not ribbed, echoing back to the Ultimate Universe version of Colossus from the early 2000s. However, after being raised by Magik, Nikolai also learned a thing or two about sorcery, and his aunt's connection to the demonic realm of Limbo. In fact, after Magik's death, she gifted him her incredibly powerful Soulsword, created from her own soul while she trapped within Limbo as a child. In a brutal battle, Nikolai fought the aging Wolverine, and although Wolverine did technically let Nikolai win - pretending to have lost his healing factor - it seems like Nikolai could have legitametly beaten Logan if he needed to.

Nikolai Is A Natural Born Variant Of The Deadly Rasputin IV

The epic mutant hero called Rasputin IV debuted during the Krakoan Era Sins of Sinister event as a powerful chimera mutant. Created from the genes of heroes like Colossus and Kate Pride, Rasputin IV had Piotr's organic metal skin and a Soulsword of her own. While not a legitimate descendant of the Rasputin family, the striking similarities between her and Nikolai are impossible to ignore. In another universe it would have been epic up see Piotr, Illyana, Rasputin IV, and Nikolai team up together.

Nikolai, sadly acting as a villain like his formerly heroic father, is an impressive fighter and used his powerful connection to Limbo to his advantage. If the X-Men Colossus and Magik had been alive up see Nikolai "defeat" Logan they would have been proud, even if he did give into his lust for vengeance.
