Nicholas Hoult, aka the X-Men's Beast, has talked about his role in the Deadpool 2, is the next installment in the primary X-Men movie timeline and focuses on the core team at Charles Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters.

The film has been confirmed to be a retelling of the  classic Dark Phoenix saga, including a few of the more intergalactic characters from the comics this time around... althoughOlivia Munn as Psylocke.

Nicholas Hoult will, of course, also be returning as Beast - reprising the role that he has played since X-Men: First Class. At the Toronto International Film Festival, Hoult spoke to ET Canada about the film, and revealed that the movie isn't quite wrapped, and that he is looking forward to something "very different" for Beast:

It's very different for Beast this time, and that was part of the appeal of doing the movie for me. Simon Kinberg who wrote and directed this time had great ideas for where he wanted the character to go, so I was excited.

Hoult doesn't elaborate on exactly how things will be different for his character this time around, and he doesn't play one of the biggest roles in the original Dark Phoenix story, so fans are left speculating about just how things will have changed for the big blue mutant.

Thus far, Beast has been a very tortured character - one who hated his original mutation and spent a vast amount of time trying to find a 'cure' before eventually finding one that backfired, turning him from someone with only his feet mutated into the big blue beast from the comics. Since then, he has tried other means of suppressing his mutation and eventually seemed to come to peace with it.

Now, fans will be hoping that this different chapter in Beast's story brings him much closer to the original comic character; an older, wiser intellectual who is fully content with his unusual appearance and acts as a mentor to the younger mutants at Xavier's school. We'll have to wait until next fall to find out for sure, but if he is much more like the original, it's a great sign for the film and Beast's future in the franchise.
