The X-Men are about to face the devastating Fall of X, and a new map shared by Marvel reveals how the team will be scattered in the aftermath. Fall of X will break the X-Men apart like never before, forcing some beloved team to strike out on their own, in some cases under totally new names.

In a recently released teaser, Nightcrawler becoming New York's new Uncanny Spider-Man.

The X-Men Are Fighting a War on Countless Fronts

While the X-Men have fractured in the past, it's usually with a specific mutant group heading out on their own. Here, however, individual heroes are scattered all over. The Dark X-Men, Uncanny Spider-Man, and X-Men will set up in New York (where their nation has an official embassy), while Captain America will lead the Uncanny Avengers from Washington, chasing down the turncoat Captain Krakoa. Meanwhile, the X-Men Red will fight for control of Mars, Magik's Realm of X team will be exiled to Vanaheim (the home-realm of Thor's mother Freyja), and Jean Grey and X-Force will be unreachable. Meanwhile, the Immortal X-Men will remain based on Krakoa. This last fact is worrying, as it implies that Orchis may be about to trap the X-Men's leaders and conquer their nation. If that happens, Krakoa could go from a paradise to a prison for thousands of mutants overnight.

Marvel also shared previews of the comics that will make up X-Men's new era, spelling out each team's mission. Alpha Flight, X-Force, and Iron Man will face new Sentinel types in their own titles, derived from the abilities of Marvel heroes, while Cable and Bishop will attempt to shut down the Children of the Vault - post-human beings set on replacing mutants as Earth's dominant species. Meanwhile, in Jean Grey, Jean will find herself in some kind of parallel reality where it's implied Cyclops became the Dark Phoenix instead of her. Omega mutant the Astonishing Iceman will be forced to defend his hometown from the Elements of Doom, while Apocalypse's beyond-Omega wife Genesis will come to claim Storm's adopted nation of Arakko. Meanwhile, Wolverine will apparently be facing off with first Ghost Rider, then the Hulk, as he hunts down his surviving clones from Beast's Weapons of X. Finally, Kate Pryde will take control of the X-Men in the new, ninja-like identity of Shadowkat.

What's interesting about this new status quo is that so far, no team is explicitly trying to take back Krakoa or fight off Orchis - indeed, they're all engaged in far more personal pursuits. This is despite the fact that Orchis' attack will occur at a moment where every major mutant and Captain Marvel's new Avengers roster are present. This jibes with the idea that Orchis may have found a way to isolate Krakoa and take the majority of mutantkind hostage, however the only way to know for sure is to pick up X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1, which will begin the tragedy that is Fall of X.

X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1 is coming July 26 from Marvel Comics.
