Warning: Spoilers ahead for Giant-Size X-Men (2025) #1!

After 50 years, X-Men history, returning to the introductions of iconic heroes like Wolverine, Storm, and Nightcrawler. Following the revelation of Kamala Khan’s mutant origins and her untimely death, Ms. Marvel is time-traveling to the past to reshape Marvel’s mutant narrative and finally establish her place within mutant-kind.

In a preview of Giant-Size X-Men #1, written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, with art by Adam Kubert, following Ms. Marvel’s revival on Krakoa, Kamala Khan is swept away by a mysterious, colorful force that sends her back in time to the X-Men’s home, Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

Now, in the past, Ms. Marvel witnesses a young Cyclops, which greatly hints at the two heroes rekindling their close friendship that occurred during their time as Champions. Kamala Khan diving into the X-Men’s past opens a vault of questions, most notably, whether or not her presence will permanently alter Marvel’s past.

Though Marvel now acknowledges Ms. Marvel as a Mutant, she was originally introduced as an Inhuman who was exposed to Terrigen Mist after a Terrigen bomb had gone off, giving her powers that allowed her to stretch and contort her body. Yet, in X-Men: Hellfire Gala (2023) #1, Kamala is revived by the Krakoan resurrection protocol following her death, where it is then revealed that she is also a mutant, making her a mutant inhuman hybrid. Following her newly realized identity as a mutant, Ms. Marvel became more closely entwined with the X-Men and the plights of Mutant-kind.

Kamala Khan Rekindles Her Best Superhero Friendship

Even before Kamala Khan was rewritten as a mutant, she shared a history and unshakable friendship with the X-Men’s stable leader, Cyclops, as a young version of the classic X-Man ed Ms. Marvel’s Champions after being time-displaced in Champions (2016) #2. As leaders of their own respective hero teams, the two shared a mutual respect, and Cyclops itted his time with the Champions was the only time in his life he was allowed to relax. Now that Kamala has been sent to the past, she can truly see what Scott Summers’ life was like in the X Mansion.

What made Cyclops and Ms. Marvel’s friendship so endearing was how the two could relate to one another as leaders, and more so, how Cyclops was finally gifted a childhood with the Champions after he had lost his youth to being a child soldier. Considering Cyclops was sent to the future as a child when he ed the Champions, there is the possibility that Cyclops will recognize Kamala. Not only will Kamala’s trip to the past let her experience the life of an X-Man, but it may also give her time to reconnect with Cyclops, one of her greatest friendships.

Marvel May Retcon Kamala Khan Into Becoming a Classic X-Men Hero

This revisiting of the past will finally solidify Kamala Khan’s place within the X-Men. It may even rewrite the memories of all the X-Men heroes to Ms. Marvel as a mutant hero, similarly to how Cyclops still re Kamala. Whether or not this will affect the current era of Marvel remains a mystery, but this journey will undeniably give Ms. Marvel a deeper understanding of who she is as a mutant. Marvel is making a bold move in rewriting one of their most staple X-Men origins, shaking up their previously established narrative by inserting Ms. Marvel into X-Men history.
