Maggott already had one of the most unique power sets in Marvel Comics, but it seems that Eternity just gave Japeth’s weird mutation a major upgrade that could make him one of the X-Men’s strongest characters ever. The issue introduces Maggott at the Storm Sanctuary and sets up his character to have a major role in the series moving forward, especially since he stays by Storm’s side when she takes on Cyclops’ X-Men team. However, once Eternity takes over the fight, signaling that Storm’s power-up comes with some sinister consequences, the battle takes a violent turn that causes Maggott’s ultimate evolution.

Maggott’s History and Mutant Digestive System, Explained
Along with his slugs, Eany and Meany, Maggott made his first appearance in Uncanny X-Men #345 by Scott Lobdell, Ben Raab, Joe Madureira, and Melvin Rubi. Initially teased as a potential villain, with his first scene showing off the terrifying nature of the creepy crawlies that are a key part of his strange mutant powers, Maggott ed the X-Men shortly after his debut. Maggott’s history was later detailed in X-Men #76 by Joe Kelly and Matt Broome, as the character revealed to Wolvinere his harrowing origin and ties with Magneto when asked why he doesn’t eat meals with the team.

Top 10 Most Depressing Powers in X-Men History
Not every mutant or member of the X-Men develops amazing mutant powers like Gambit or Nightcrawler. These mutants have it worse than anybody.
Explaining that he doesn’t personally eat, Maggott’s mutant power is his connection with the two slugs that have become his super-powered digestive system. Eany and Meany turn Maggott into the “unstoppable devourer,” since the slugs quickly eat literally anything and burrow the energy back into Maggott’s body, shown again with the essence of Eégún. Though this unique mutation was once thought to be too bizarre and outlandish for some audiences, the way it grants extreme power and features some creepy body horror makes Maggott a quintessential X-Man, and his Omega-level upgrade should build upon that foundation.
The Underrated X-Men Hero Finally Makes a Comeback That Could Bring Him to the A-List of Marvel’s Mutants
After 28 Years, Maggott’s Power and Style Are Officially Undeniable
Even aside from the Eégún enhancements he’s receiving, Maggott’s appearance in Storm #6 could be ushering in a great new era for the character, which is well-deserved after grand plans for the hero were scrapped during the time of Krakoa. Being established as Storm’s right-hand man when she’s seemingly at her most powerful bodes well for the hero’s importance in future stories, and Storm’s creative team could truly bring the character to A-List status. Vecchio’s updated styling for the character is totally worthy of the big leagues, and they haven’t even revealed his final new design after the power-up.
Maggott is confirmed to be sticking around in the pages of Storm for a while, so he could be growing accustomed to his powerful new normal, with solicitations for future issues teasing that he’ll be running the Storm Sanctuary / Thundercloud while Ororo embarks on other adventures. With Eany and Meany by his side, the hero is finally taking on a more prominent and powerful role. Despite having extremely unique mutant powers, Maggott has rarely been at the forefront of major X-Men stories, but his Omega-level upgrade could make him one of the Marvel Universe’s strongest superheroes ever.
