Emma Frost possesses one of the X-Men’s most durable secondary transformations, but a new mutant might soon outmatch her. Trapped somewhere underneath the Louisiana X-Men’s new base, an old power has been kept secret. Now, the Uncanny X-Men’s Outliers are about to reveal something so hauntingly powerful with a mutant ability that would make Emma Frost jealous.

In Uncanny X-Men #13 (2025), by Gail Simone and David Marquez, the young team of Outliers discover an ancient-looking obsidian tomb that houses maddened whispers of the dead. Meanwhile, the readers are introduced to a new mutant from the past named Henrietta “Henry” Benjamin.

Henry Benjamin In Her Obsidian Form Against a Background of Her In Her Human Form

While little is known about this character, Marvel has released an early look at Luciano Vecchio's cover for Uncanny X-Men #14, including a sneak peek at the X-Men’s new obsidian-clad mutant. Coated in razor-sharp black glass, this character puts Emma Frost’s diamond powers to shame.

While Emma Frost is more popularly known for her Omega Class telepathy, she has also unlocked a secondary mutation that transforms her entire body into organic diamonds. At any point, Emma can transform any part of her body into a flexible diamond material. Thanks to this transformation, Emma has gained overwhelming super strength and stamina, and, most importantly, has become an immortal, practically invulnerable powerhouse of diamonds. In her diamond form, Emma has taken direct blows from the Hulk and a Celestial, proving the extreme power of her secondary mutation.

Emma Frost isn’t the only mutant with this type of ability, though. The X-Man Monet St. Croix possesses a similar secondary power that allows her to assume a red-diamond form, although it merely coats her skin rather than replaces her body entirely. Likewise, Colossus also replaces his body with organic steel, but it still doesn’t compare to Emma Frost’s diamonds. However, Henry Benjamin may be the first mutant to have a transformative ability that is on Emma's level. While little is known about the full scale of Henry’s power, it certainly looks like it could hold up against Emma’s. However, Henry’s greatest attribute at the moment is her style.

Besides her incredible mutant powers, Emma Frost sets herself apart from the rest with her uncanny ability to sway others with her beguiling looks and personality. Her choice to wear skimpier clothing is an intentional one, meant to sway the thoughts of manipulable men. However, Henry Benjamin is bringing her own killer style to the game. In her human form, Henry wears a conservatively modest jacket and skirt, but in her obsidian form, she dons something that can only be described as authoritatively attractive. Her stiletto boots meet her razor-sharp dress as the mutant assumes an air of power.

Despite coming from an era where women and people of color faced societal oppression, as well as dealing with the discrimination of being a mutant, Henry Benjamin has carried herself with an air of superiority and confidence, much like Emma Frost. These women are incredible powerhouses who know their worth but are confined to a world that doesn’t take them seriously. We may not know much about this character yet, but the Uncanny X-Men had better prepare for when they encounter whatever lies beneath their base and the mysterious secrets of Henrietta “Henry” Benjamin.
