  • 'From the Ashes' era will see Forge leading X-Force, using his abilities to fix what's broken in the world.
  • Marvel hints at Forge reaching new level of power, potentially unlocking abilities to sense and fix problems.

As a new era of the Omega-Level label is a rare honor applied to only around two dozen mutants in all of Marvel lore. Now, a new entry is being added to the list, as a hero who fans have long argued should be an Omega officially reaches the next level.

Following its 2019-2024 Krakoan Era, X-Men will receive a linewide revamp this July, as it enters the 'From the Ashes' era. Marvel just announced this will include a new volume of X-Force, with the mutant inventor Forge leading a team including Rachel Summers, Betsy Braddock, Sage, Surge, Tank and guest specialist Deadpool. However, the reveal also states that Forge will become an Omega-Level mutant, confirming that "accessing an omega-level degree of his unique and complex mutant power to build anything, Forge will bear witness to everything broken in the world."

A new path forged! The world is fractured. Forge uses his powers to devise the only fix: an all-new, all-different X-Force! Forge leads a custom-made, handpicked team of mutants in off-the-books missions so dire, so integral to the fate of the Marvel Universe, there’s no time to stop for permission!

An instinctive inventor who can construct any device he can imagine, Forge has been responsible for some of the X-Men's most ambitious projects. However, despite his almost limitless power, he's long been denied the Omega-level classification. Now, it seems Forge will reach beyond his prior limits as X-Force's leader.

X-Men: The 10 Most Powerful 'Beyond Omega Level' Mutants, Ranked

X-Men's most powerful mutants are termed 'Omega-level,' but there IS a category beyond even that - one precious few heroes have achieved.

While Forge has always been able to instinctively construct mechanisms for a given purpose, it's easy to see how this power could translate to the ability to sense how to fix what's broken.

X-Men's Forge Will Access Omega-Level Powers

As the Leader of X-Force, Forge Will Evolve

'From the Ashes' will see the X-Men down on their luck, following the dissolution of the mutant nation of Krakoa. Hated, feared, and drastically reduced in number, the X-Men are transforming into a set of specialist teams, effectively acting behind the scenes to safeguard mutants. Forge will take command of X-Force, with Marvel suggesting he will apply his instinctive invention powers to fixing the world itself, stating, "The world is fractured. Forge uses his powers to devise the only fix: an all-new, all-different X-Force!"

During the Krakoan Era, Marvel subtly rewrote the meaning of Omega power, making it so that it didn't just refer to ultra-powerful mutants, but to those mutants whose powers couldn't be more powerful, even hypothetically, in respect to their field of influence. Not only did this disqualify Forge, but he was used as the example of a powerful mutant who wasn't Omega - indeed, Forge has a major grudge against Tony Stark because the human inventor was used as proof that Forge's genius isn't actually without limits (since there are humans who can out-build him.)

Recently, Forge has been experimenting with plant-based biotech, creating self-constructing cities and a huge amount of plant-powered weaponry. However, he's also been working on enhancile suits for his hero allies, including Cyclops' Captain Krakoa suit and Wolverine's adamantium armor.

However, it now seems that Forge will transcend these limitations. While it's possible X-Men will be rewriting the qualifications for Omega level for its new era, Marvel's press release is certainly phrased as if Forge will be unlocking a new level of his power. While he's always been able to instinctively construct mechanisms for a given purpose (limited only by what's physically available), it's easy to see how this power could translate to the ability to sense how to fix what's broken.

Hopefully, as X-Men officially upgrades Forge to Omega level, fans aren't witnessing the birth of a monster.

Forge's New Powers Justify the Darkest X-Force Yet

The Black-Ops Team Can't Let Anyone Stop Them

x-force tease for 2024

Such a major power makes this new iteration of X-Force a fascinating take on the concept. Usually, X-Force act as the black-ops arm of mutantdom, taking lethal action against threats. With Forge seeing surefire ways to fix the world, X-Force now has more reason that ever to ignore the boundaries that heroic teams like the X-Men are forced to respect. Of course, stepping too far into darkness can lead to corruption, and Forge has used his abilities for evil before. Hopefully, as X-Men officially upgrades Forge to Omega level, fans aren't witnessing the birth of a monster.

X-Force #1 is coming from Marvel Comics July 31.
