Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Psylocke #4! the current ‘Psylocke’: Kwannon. And now, Kwannon has made the legacy ‘Psylocke’ codename even cooler than it already was by introducing an all-new deadly power.
In a preview for Psylocke #4 by Alyssa Wong and Moisés Hidalgo, Kwannon is trying to break into the mansion of an evil billionaire named Ty Haniver, who was previously responsible for an attack on one of Psylocke’s allies, John Greycrow. Haniver is obsessed with taxidermy (to a twisted degree), though it could be argued that he’s more obsessed with killer robots, as that is what he used to attack Greycrow, and that’s also what Psylocke is fighting now that she’s trying to break into his estate.
Psylocke quickly learns that these killer drones are no joke, and that her usual method of attack may not be enough to destroy them and complete her mission. Luckily, Psylocke came prepared. Kwannon whips out a specialty kunai that her partner, Devon Di Angelo, made for her. Why is this particular ninja weapon so special? Well, it is able to receive and be enhanced by Psylocke’s psychic power, which allows Kwannon to control it with her mind like a telepathic guided missile. And, once it was used in action, the killer drones didn’t stand a chance.
Psylocke is Once Again Pushing Her Telepathic Powers to Their Limits
Psylocke Already Had Psi-Blades, & Now She Has Mind-Guided Kunai
Even before this power upgrade, Psylocke was already perhaps the most badass telepath in X-Men history. While it’s true her psychic powers could never rival the likes of Charles Xavier, Emma Frost, or Jean Grey, Psylocke always had something they never did: psi-blades. Psylocke can manifest purple blades on her hands with her mind, and when using them in battle, literally slice the psyches of any enemy she encounters.
Psylocke’s mutation allowed her to weaponize her telepathic powers in ways that other telepaths simply could not achieve. And now, Psylocke is pushing her telepathic powers to their limits once more with the implementation of her new kunai, which basically grants her telekinesis with this weapon alone, allowing her to use the kunai as a psychically-guided ‘missile’ in battle - a truly deadly upgrade, indeed.
Psylocke’s New Weapon Perfectly Honors Her Villainous Origin
Kwannon was a Member of the Hand from Birth Before Becoming an X-Men Hero
It should also be noted that the weapon itself, the kunai, perfectly honors Kwannon’s villainous origin, especially now that she’s using this weapon as a hero. Kunai were originally Japanese farming tools that became used as weapons by ninja. Therefore, it’s no accident that Psylocke is comfortable wielding one, as she used to belong to the most villainous ninja clan in Marvel history: the Hand. Kwannon was raised in the Hand, and trained to be a killer all her life. Eventually - after a complicated history with Betsy Braddock - Kwannon ed the X-Men, but she will still always be a ninja.

Wolverine Unlocks Nightmarish Potential With an Upgrade From Invisible Woman
Wolverine is already a brutal character, and now thanks to Fantastic Four's The Invisible Woman, the iconic X-Men hero has become utterly terrifying.
The upgraded kunai is a perfect example of how far she’s come, from evil assassin to X-Men hero, while simultaneously honoring her origin. But, more than anything, this kunai is the key to Psylocke’s all-new upgrade, as she is able to enhance it with her powers and control it with her mind, effectively making the X-Men’s deadliest psychic even stronger.
