Spoilers for Storm #8! Marvel’s Storm holding command over more raw power than most mutants combined, all thanks to her signature weather-controlling abilities. Now, Ororo, along with two other of the X-Men, have revealed that they have been hiding a secret superpower for years, making them the most well-equipped in a fight against an enemy that uses the mind-bending powers of a telepath.
Recently at odds with each other after trying to find the best way to deal with the escaped prisoner that is their mutant mentor, Professor Xavier, the various X-Men teams of Marvel Comics have had their work cut out for them recently, with the latest issue of Storm’s solo series piling on the problems.
In Storm #8, as Storm deals with the Thunder War as well as the legalities surrounding her Storm Sanctuary, it’s revealed that Ororo and her X-Men pals, Jubilee and Gambit, are immune to telepathy, something that may come as a surprise to long-time X-Men fans.
Storm, Jubilee, and Gambit Are Immune to Telepathy Thanks to Their Inherent Mutant Abilities
Storm #8 - 2025 (Murewa Ayodele, Lucas Werneck and Mario Santoro)
A previously unknown power revealed during Storm’s interrogation at the hands of Special Agent Fabiyi, an alien being who seeks to investigate Storm’s past sins in Egypt and her perceived current ones in regards to her Storm Sanctuary, Fabiyi soon brings up his belief that Storm was “recently under psychic influence” and that her memories may have been “telepathically altered.” Taking offense, Storm explains how she’s “immune to telepathy,” and adds that Gambit and Jubilee are also immune because of the “latent energy that’s always surging through their bodies and brains,” officially making these three iconic X-Men invaluable anti-telepath deterrents.

Storm vs X-Men Proves the Hero Outgrew Mutantkind For All the Wrong Reasons
Storm was once a valued X-Men member, but her latest upgrade has elevated her beyond her fellow mutants, and a new conflict has widened that divide.
Confirming that Storm, Jubilee, and Gambit’s telepathic immunity comes from the immense energy they call upon to make their powers work, this is an interesting wrinkle in explaining how mutant powers work in tandem with, or opposed to, other abilities in the Marvel Universe. Already well-established that Storm and most of the original X-Men have mastered the “Red Triangle Protocol,” or training exercises taught by Xavier to shield them from any unwanted telepathic attacks, the fact that Storm, Jubilee, and Gambit have an additional layer of immunity to these attacks only further ensures their usefulness against telepaths in a fight.

This New Development Only Adds to Her Omega Mutant Status
Furthermore, Storm eventually deduces that her mind is already being tampered with by Special Agent Fabiyi, proving that she has a sixth sense for these kinds of telepathic attacks that likely stems from her latent mutant powers and the sensitivity of her Red Triangle training. Though Ororo is the one to break the news of her and her fellow X-Men’s hidden abilities in this issue, it’s still unclear as to when this bomb drop of a reveal will be utilized again in comics, with a Storm x Jubilee x Gambit team-up being an intriguing idea that needs to be explored.
