Lifedream Is A Gorgeous Celebration Of Storm's Epic Legacy

The goddess, the legend, the icon will always be famous

Comic book art: Storm leaping away from an explosion as she conjures lighting in the palm of her hand.

Storm: Lifedream is stylistically titled after Uncanny X-Men #186, a double-sized issue from 1984 titled "Lifedeath," which remains one of the most iconic Storm comics of all time. "Lifedeath" deals with the fallout from Ororo losing her mutant powers after being shot by a weapon Forge created, while Lifedream is a reflection on how far Storm has come, and how much more confident in her identity as a hero, mutant, and goddess she is now. Lifedream is based around an "ancient race of interdimensional archivists," who are catag Storm as their newest addition to the "Eternal Archive."

"It is these attributes that compel Ptolemy and I to enter Storm into the Lumaery Archive, preserving every iteration of her for all eternity to inspire generations to come."

Already this is clearly a major honor, with Storm essentially being inducted into an intergalactic "Library of Congress," but the archivists' arguments for why Ororo should be inducted are where you see the true impact Storm has had. Akasha and Ptolemy, the archivists presenting Storm's legacy to the archival Chancellors, report that Ororo was always "destined for greatness," before highlighting her African priestess ancestors, and her designation as a "goddess" to many followers. For years now, Storm has been one of Marvel's most consequential heroes, impacting Marvel's politics, style, and perception of mutantkind. This is undeniable. However, it is lovely to see a canon comic formally acknowledge her vast legacy and the epic impact she continues to have on the world of comics, not just Marvel.
