While X-Men's most iconic heroes, they're not usually seen as the team's powerhouses. However, that just changed, as a group of mutants merge together to become X-Men's strongest hero, with an arsenal of god-tier mutant powers. It's the ultimate fusion of mutant abilities, drawing on existing Marvel lore in a smart new way.

The transformation happens in Godzilla vs X-Men #1 by Fabian Nicieza, Emilio Laiso, Federico Blee and Clayton Cowles. In the comic, the X-Men are ed by the government for their help repelling an attack by the King of Monsters. Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Beast and Storm spring into action, with Gambit carrying out a heist to retrieve an old Super-Adaptoid robot. Xavier then creates a telepathic mind-link, allowing the heroes to combine their powers in a single, gigantic form.

The Super-Adaptoid is a longtime Avengers enemy which can replicate the powers of superhumans in its vicinity. By combining their abilities, the X-Men are able to use the villainous robot to their advantage, confronting Godzilla in a single body with all the powers and knowledge of Xavier, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Beast and Gambit.

The X-Men grow the Super-Adaptoid to Godzilla-size using Pym Particles in a play on the idea of 'Giant-Size X-Men.' This title was used for an iconic 1975 comic that introduced heroes including Storm, Wolverine and Colossus to the franchise, and the phrase has become a repeated motif ever since.

Cyclops is one of X-Men's most iconic heroes, but few fans know how incredibly powerful Scott Summers can become at the height of his abilities.

Even Godzilla Isn't Ready for the Giant-Size X-Men

Jean Grey is generally considered the X-Men franchise's most powerful mutant, though many fans would argue that Storm has risen to the same level. In the case of the combined, giant-size X-Men form, the question is academic, since both these Omega-level mutants are present in the mix. Likewise, Omega-level psychic Charles Xavier and underrated powerhouse Gambit are present, with Cyclops, Wolverine and Beast adding their optic blasts, unbreakable claws and superhuman athleticism respectively.

Ultimately, the X-Men end up united with Godzilla after it emerges that the kaiju was provoked into its attack, with a new Tri-Sentinel fusing his old enemies Biollante, Battra and Rodan, teaching the team that even as mutants, they can be caught up in unfounded fear and prejudice.

However, fans will be glad that the X-Men were sucked into this epic battle, since it revealed the incredible power of their combined form. And with the Super-Adaptoid being a regular part of Marvel lore, hopefully this is a concept the X-Men can revisit in future, with or without the King of Monsters.
