Both heroes are shown with totally white eyes, suggesting they may not be in control of their actions.

Rogue's Uncanny X-Men Face Corruption to Save Their Students

What Is X-Men's Terrifying New Dark Artery?

uncanny x-men's death dream suffering while rogue and wolverine look on

The X-Men's friends and enemies should fear Rogue if she's corrupted by dark magic, since Uncanny X-Men has stressed how powerful she has become in recent years. While fighting the villainous Hag, Rogue revealed she has the combined strength of Captain Marvel and Wonder Man, having absorbed both of their abilities, making her one of the Marvel Universe's most powerful beings. If she turns to the dark side, not only will this immense strength be used in service of evil, but Rogue's ability to absorb the powers and memories of anyone she touches will be unleashed like never before.

Since the fall of the mutant nation of Krakoa, Marvel's mutants have been scrambling for connection and alliance, with Rogue feeling that her former teammates failed her and each other. There's a lot of trauma and darkness for the forces of the Dark Artery to tap into. However, Rogue's disappointment in other X-Men heroes has also motivated her to safeguard the next generation, and if the Outliers are in trouble, Rogue will risk anything to save them - including her own soul.

The same is true of Wolverine, despite the fact that he recently told Rogue he's done being "Daddy Logan" to mutant teens in trouble. No fan who knows Logan believed it at the time, and Wolverine charging into supernatural darkness to save the Outliers proves that no matter what he claims, he'll never be someone who can watch young mutants suffer when there's anything he can do about it. While it's always fun for fans to see X-Men heroes turn dark, hopefully Rogue and Wolverine have the willpower to push back the darkness and double-down on bringing the Outliers home safe.

Uncanny X-Men #16 is coming June 25 from Marvel Comics.
