Microsoft’s Project Scarlett next-gen Xbox console is already in use and being played in at least one home, Xbox head Phil Spencer’s home. While it might not sound too surprising that the head of Xbox is already playing with Project Scarlett at home, the next-gen console is not due to hit store shelves until the 2020 holiday season.
Project Scarlett was first unveiled last year at E3 and is expected to take over from the Xbox One X as the company’s primary console. Although it won’t be the only new Xbox console that’s coming as it was recently revealed that Microsoft is working on another next-gen console. Dubbed Project Lockhart, the other Xbox console is expected to be less powerful and more affordable. If the recent reports are correct, Lockhart will be a disc-free console. Both new Xbox consoles are set to make their market debut late next year.
This latest Project Scarlett update came directly from new Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and to connect to the community.
Spencer did not provide any additional information on the experience or what games he’s currently playing. However, the Xbox head had previously revealed that he’s been playing Project Scarlett games first-party games on a regular basis.
With the official release of Project Scarlett still being a year out, this latest update seems to suggest the development of the next-gen console is going well. Having a version that’s already playable, adopted as a primary console, and working fine with other Xbox products and services is all good news for Xbox fans. Of course, the version Spencer has at home is unlikely to be the same version consumers end up buying. With a year still to go, Microsoft is likely to make more modifications and tweaks before it becomes a finished product. This also likely means more social media reveals in the meantime.
Project Scarlett is planned for a 2020 release. More details will likely be announced soon.
