Reportedly, Microsoft plans on giving the Master Chief Collection originally released for Xbox One in 2014, then made its way to PC over the course of 2019 and 2020. Of course, Microsoft had the compilation package ready to go once the Series X|S dropped in November 2020, as well.
Barring Halo 5: Guardians and the recently released Halo Infinite, the full package compiles all major titles in the long-running FPS series, namely Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4. Each game in the collection boasts graphical enhancements and their respective multiplayer maps, a boon for fans and newcomers who want access to everything in one convenient place. However, Master Chief Collection stumbled mightily out of the gate due to a litany of technical issues that hindered an otherwise great experience. While developers addressed these issues post-launch, few players have forgotten the early growing pains.
During episode 93 of The XboxEra Podcast (via GamingBolt), co-host Nick Baker shared a rumor he's heard about a remaster project that Microsoft allegedly has in development. Baker claimed the project in question involves "another Microsoft franchise" that will receive "the Master Chief Collection treatment." The host wouldn't divulge specifics but said the MCC treatment means the mystery IP will have all of its installments compiled in one package, complete with remastered visuals and the works. A release timeline for the supposed collection presently remains under wraps as well, Baker added.
Gears of War seems the most obvious guess, alongside the likes of Fable and Forza. The former, in particular, would no doubt please many an Xbox fan, especially if Microsoft could get all seven Gears games - save for Gears POP! - in a single box.
At present, the crew at Gears of War developer The Coalition has multiple projects in production, all powered by Unreal Engine 5. The team's efforts presumably include new IP and an unannounced Gears title. Given the recent rumor out of XboxEra, the latter could potentially involve a remastered collection for the groundbreaking third-person shooter series. This is all little more than conjecture, though, since neither Microsoft nor The Coalition has offered concrete details about future plans for the brand.
