Microsoft has officially announced the first dedicated leak hinted that the coming handheld device, codenamed "Keenan," was close to completion.
The rumors have turned out to be true: During the Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft announced the release of the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X. Both devices will be available in time for the holidays this year and will allow players to take both Xbox and PC gaming on the go with them.
First Xbox Handheld Console Details Revealed
Two Versions Will Be Available At Launch
The Xbox handheld was revealed to be a collaboration with ROG (short for Republic of Gamers), a gaming computer brand owned by ASUS. The official console will allow players to access their console games seamlessly with Xbox controls paired with the power of a PC.
The trailer also shows off several games that will be playable on the ROG Ally and Ally X, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Gears of War, and Hollow Knight: Silksong.
According to the trailer, two versions of the handheld will be released simultaneously. The X will be a slick black while the lite version will be white, both using the signature Xbox green as an accent color. Both will use an AMD Ryzen Z2 chip, with the black X version acting as the more powerful (and probably more expensive) option, while the white version is a lite option. The following details were revealed about what the two will offer for players:
- The ROG Xbox Ally X, powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, with 24 GB of memory and 1TB of storage
- The ROG Xbox Ally, powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2A, with 16 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage.
While the ROG Xbox Ally will be half as powerful and include half the storage, it will still pack a punch thanks to the Ryzen chip.
Xbox ROG Ally Handhelds Will Be Available Soon
The Handhelds Will Be Out In Time For The Holidays
Microsoft has been taking steps to even PlayStation consoles. The newly revealed Xbox handheld devices seem to be the next step for the gaming giant, letting players access their entire game library on the go, no matter where they are.

I’m Struggling To See The Point Of Xbox’s Rumored 2025 Handheld
A handheld device with the Xbox name might be releasing this year, but it just doesn't sound like something with the power to shake up the market.
Both the Ally and Ally X will have access to both Xbox and PC games, making this a powerful addition to the Microsoft portfolio. No specific release date or price has been revealed yet, but the gaming handhelds will be available for the holiday season this year.
