The Halo Infinite is delayed until 2021,  it looks like Microsoft is doomed to repeat their past mistakes.

The Halo series has gone hand-in-hand with Xbox consoles from the very beginning. The first game in the series, Halo: Combat Evolved, was a launch title on the first Xbox. A few years later, when Halo 3 released on the Xbox 360, it was the biggest game launch ever at the time. Even today, Halo games are almost synonymous with Xbox. That's why it was so surprising when the Xbox One didn't offer a new Halo game to coincide with its launch.

When it debuted in November 2013, the Xbox One was missing something: a brand-new Halo game. Halo 4 had released on the Xbox 360 about a year earlier, and Halo 5 wouldn't appear until the fall of 2015. For almost two years, Microsoft's console was missing its most popular series.

Xbox's Biggest Launch Mistake Happens Again

Not releasing a Halo game to launch with the Xbox One was a risky move from Microsoft, and it didn't pay off. In the long-running console war with Sony, Microsoft lost. To date, the Xbox One has sold only half of what the PS4 has, selling slightly over 50 million units — as opposed to the PS4, which has sold over 100 million. A huge factor that went into the Xbox One's sales numbers is that there was no new Halo game at launch. While the PS4 launched with many exclusive titles, the Xbox One was missing its flagship series.

Now that Halo Infinite is no longer a launch title for the Xbox Series X, it looks like Microsoft is repeating its major mistake. While some players may still flock to the new console for its Game , it's unlikely the Game alone can save the Xbox Series X from a disastrous launch.
