The Xbox Series X has gotten comparisons to looking like a fridge, and now one fan has taken that a step further by animating the console as one. The new Xbox Series X has received some backlash from fans who don't like the design of the console, saying that it looks too much like a box, even for an Xbox.
The Xbox Series X is one of Microsoft's new and up-coming consoles, first announced at E3 2019 as Project Scarlett. Scheduled for release in late 2020, it will be Microsoft's direct competitor to the PS5, which is also releasing around the same time. It is expected to have improved hardware that allows for a higher resolution, higher frame rate, and a 1TB SSD which should reduce loading times while games attempt to populate assets on screen.
Reddit daepiknoob posted their video on the gaming subreddit, with a caption teasing that they took apart an Xbox Series X. The video slowly zooms in on what looks to be the unreleased next-gen console, but then it opens like a refrigerator door and has some tiny food in it, as well as a typical gamer's stash of miniature Monster cans filling the top shelf. The realism of this 3D animation is so close to perfect that a few Reddit s took to the comments to exclaim that they really thought daepiknoob had a real Xbox Series X until they realized they had been duped when a door opens up to show some pocket-sized food and drink.
According to Microsoft, there will be a Smart Delivery for third party developers will be available, but it is up to them whether or not they choose to use it. Some games have already confirmed their use of this feature, including some big titles like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Halo Infinite, and Cyberpunk 2077.
The Xbox Series X is expected to be a powerful machine with the best interests of its fan base at heart, considering it will be backwards compatible with most Xbox One games, and therefore many Xbox 360 games too as there was already cross-play between these two older consoles. Although the machine is capable, it is ittedly very rectangular, and this talented animator has skillfully made it look as though it belongs in the kitchen next to a microwave oven.
