The publisher has set the stage both through teasers and the introduction of fierce new enemies like Feilong's Stark Sentinels and the return of a warring Genesis. Now, all of these various factions coming to a head in July's Hellfire Gala.
Marvel has revealed the trailer for X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2023 #1 from writer Gerry Duggan and a whole slew of amazing artists like Luciano Vecchio, R.B. Silva, Adam Kubert, Kris Anka, Valerio Schiti, Pepe Larraz, and more. The video shows the horror that Orchis will unleash against the mutants of Krakoa, while the X-Men and Avengers begin a desperate fight back.
The Fall Of X Is Looming Large Over The Hellfire Gala
The trailer for this year's Hellfire Gala one-shot includes new teases like an amazing new costume design for Cyclops, and the incredible new costume of the mutant chimera warrior Rasputin IV. Jean Grey is seen in a gorgeous costume designed by Russel Dauterman that shows off her powerful psychic ability. Fans can also see that Krakoa's premier fashion designer Jumbo Carnation is in a relationship with the Mykines lighthouse keeper who winked at him in 2021s first-ever Hellfire Gala. While this year's Hellfire Gala will feature a devastating attack by Orchis, it will also unveil the new team of X-Men for the coming year including the fan vote winner. Exactly how the X-Men will operate in the Fall of X era is still very unclear.
Marvel has made it abundantly clear for months that the Hellfire Gala will be the official start of the Fall of X era, one that will see the main X-Men scattered throughout the world and a new team of Dark X-Men led by Madelyne Pryor rise in their place. The trailer for the pivotal issue features a horrifying attack on the mutant event led by Nimrod and the brutal Stark Sentinels, with powerful mutants like Magik and Iceman fighting against their foes with ferocity. However, this is just the beginning of the destruction that will be leveled against Krakoa by Orchis, and potentially their allies Genesis, Clan Akkaba, Mother Righteous, Moira X, and Dr. Stasis. The X-Men are going to need all the help they can get to not be entirely wiped out. Thankfully a number of the newest team of Avengers are attending the Gala at the moment Orchis strikes.
The Avengers Will Fight For Krakoa's Future
The X-Men and the Avengers have at times had a tenuous relationship, especially pre-Krakoa when Cyclops and many of his followers became more extreme in the fallout from the Decimation. However, the recent A.X.E.: Judgment Day event re-solidified many of the ties between the two teams, and it is clear from the new trailer that the Avengers intend to help the mutants stay alive. Many powerful of Captain Marvel's new Avengers team like Thor, Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Captain America are seen standing alongside the X-Men to takedown Nimrod.
Many fans of the X-Men are fearful that the Fall of X era will spell the permanent destruction of the mutant nation of Krakoa. Marvel's new trailer for the Hellfire Gala one-shot isn't dispelling those fears, as the mutants greatest enemies Orchis launch their first major assault on Krakoa in just a month.
