With mutants on the rise in the Marvel Universe, it was only a matter of time until their enemies raised their game to match. And in their last issue, the Marauders got a rough introduction into the new power-negating technology being used against mutants... along with the hooded, racist killers embracing zealotry and a new war against mutantkind.
To this point it seemed that the Marauders were establishing an undeniably strong network around the globe, trading Krakoan medicine, while rescuing the most vulnerable mutants scattered across the globe. But that was before they decided to visit Captain Kate Pryde held the helm at sea, the surprise attack from "Homines Verendi" put Iceman into harm's way. Now the group continues the fight in Marvel's official preview for Marauders #6, confirming the hooded bigots are in for more than expected.
In the additional pages of text offered in the issue, evidence of this strange Latin-named group is offered as a growing, even organized new structure built in response to the mutant-exclusive, and now neutral-to-good, Krakoa-loyal Hellfire Club. Roughly translating to "Man must be revered and feared," and with the hooded attackers referring to mutants as "gene junk," the anti-mutant ranks have once again decided to try their luck at killing them (even if they can just resurrect themselves back on Krakoa). We suppose if some people responded to the X-Men relaunch by worshiping Marvel's mutants like gods, it only makes sense that some would unite against them. Enjoy the preview pages below:
