The first new costumes for the X-Men's 2023 Hellfire Gala have just been revealed, as Marvel Comics unveils a gorgeous cover by acclaimed artist Phil Noto. The art features beloved mutants like Jean Grey, Emma Frost, and Kate Pryde, alongside many of Krakoa's major enemies.
The X-Men's annual Hellfire Gala - a tradition which started in 2021 - is a massive, fashion-filled party hosted by the iconic Emma Frost, with stunning costumes for many of Marvel's most beloved mutants designed by Jumbo Carnation (at least in official canon.) The gala is always sure to be filled with drama, betrayal, and the selection of a new X-Men team for the following year.
First revealed at Marvel Unlimited's 60th Anniversary of the X-Men event, Phil Noto's breathtaking cover for 2023s X-Men: Hellfire Gala highlights some of the exciting costumes to be worn by mutant leaders like Jean Grey, Exodus, and Emma Frost, while also hinting at the anti-mutant agency Orchis gate-crashing the party ahead of Marvel's Fall of X event.
X-Men's Hellfire Gala Promises Some Major Surprises
Alongside the intense drama and high fashion looks the Hellfire Gala is known for, the event will also reveal the winner of this year's X-Men Fan Vote, while also announcing the entire new team lineup for the official X-Men team. X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1 will be written by Gerry Duggan, with art by an impressive cadre of beloved artists including Kris Anka, Joshua Cassara, Russell Dauterman, Adam Kubert, Pepe Larraz, R.B. Silva, and Luciano Vecchio, and will feature the X-Men "left reeling after a series of shocking revelations, stunning betrayals, horrifying tragedy, impossible deaths… and more."
Fans can get a first glimpse at the 2023 Hellfire Gala in May, with Free Comic Book Day 2023: Avengers/X-Men #1 featuring the return of Captain America's Uncanny Avengers in a flash-forward story taking place during the dramatic Gala. Phil Noto's gorgeous cover for X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1 shows the Orchis logo, along with Nimrod and Doctor Stasis, a high-ranking Orchis leader who was revealed to be one of the four Sinister Clones featured in Sins of Sinister, teasing that Orchis will be a major part of this year's Hellfire Gala, just like last year when Orchis leader Moira X infiltrated the event using the body of Spider-Man's long term love interest Mary Jane.
Jean Grey Gets a Gorgeous New Costume
Phil Noto's incredibly cover features first looks at several of the new costumes designed for the mutant heroes attending the Gala, including gorgeous new outfits for Jean Grey, Emma Frost, Kitty Pryde, Hope Summers, and Exodus. After Marvel's reveal of Noto's cover, repeat Hellfire Gala costume designer Jean Grey's new Gala costume, an absolutely beautiful black and green outfit with a stunning jeweled headpiece and green boots that transition into the gold and red made infamous from Jean's Dark Phoenix Saga.
The third Annual Hellfire Gala is only a few months away, and Marvel's reveal of Phil Noto's beautiful cover for the event should get X-Men fans everywhere excited, as more and more begins to be revealed about Marvel's most anticipated event of the year.
