Warning! Spoilers ahead for X-Men #21

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Cyclops and Jean Grey are resolved to lead a new team of heroes on the island nation and their actual process for choosing the team's newest ensures that they're the best mutants for the job, seemingly making them the greatest version of the X-Men in mutant history.

Prior to the festivities of the Hellfire Gala where the team is being revealed, Scott and Jean had decided awhile ago that the citizens of Krakoa should choose its in the first-ever X-Men election, allowing the new team to truly be heroes of the people. However, one member of the new team was actually voted on by Marvel fans themselves, who eventually voted on Polaris to the ranks of the new team. Now, X-Men #21 from writer Jonathan Hickman and artists Nick Dragotta, Russell Dauterman, Lucas Werneck, and Sara Pichelli sees the entire team being voted on by mutant kind.

Gathering the attention of all in attendance at the Hellfire Gala, Cyclops and Jean Grey announce that it's time to choose the new X-Men, and Jean connects the minds of all the mutants of Krakoa telepathically. As explained by Doctor Strange, Jean has created a psychic forum, allowing those who desire to be an X-Man to make their case to all of Krakoa simultaneously. Then, the connected mutants then rally and coalesce behind those they believe best represent the values of their nation, seemingly ensuring that the best candidates make the cut. Once the vote concludes, Scott and Jean are proud to announce Krakoa's new roster of X-Men: Rogue, Sunfire, X-23's Wolverine, Synch, and Polaris.

X-Men-Perfect-Team

It's certainly an impressive roster, made even better with the unique nature of how they were chosen. While past team were simply selected by Charles Xavier or whoever was leading the X-Men at the time, this roster has been chosen by the people they'll be protecting. Additionally, the level of truth and openness displayed during this telepathic link certainly seems to suggest that this is the most ideal grouping of mutants to ever take on the iconic X-Men name in Marvel Comics history.

In any case, it's going to be very interesting to see how this new roster operates in future issues. While they've seemingly proven their worth and earned their place on the team thanks to the psychic election, it's still possible that growing pains could still occur as the team strives to forge strong team dynamics. They're certainly a colorful collection of mutants with varying backgrounds and degrees of experience, but they all have one key thing in common: they were all chosen by Krakoa to be its X-Men, setting them up to become the greatest team of mutants ever, no matter what challenges they may soon face.
