Warning: contains spoilers for Nightcrawlers #2As the X-Men's horrific Sins of Sinister event continues to escalate, Nightcrawlers #2 reveals the multiple cosmic civilizations destroyed by the Quiet Council of Sinisters, with Charles Xavier upgrading his impressive telepathy to commit genocide against the entire Shi'ar race.
Sins of Sinister follows the results of Mister Sinister successfully implanting a "personality virus" in the of the Quiet Council, leading to a planet Earth ruled by their worst selves, who have killed the Avengers, brutally defeated the Eternals, and effectively turned 99% of the world's population into Sinisters.
Nightcrawlers #2 - written by Si Spurrier with art by Andrea Di Vito and Jim Charalampidis - follows the Nightcrawler chimeras known as the Legion of Night as they plunder powerful mystical artifacts from under the Sinisters' noses while they destroy entire civilizations, planets, and realms. Charles Xavier, whose daughter is half Shi'ar, can be seen using an updated version of Krakoa's "Earth-Arakko-Relay" brain technology to wipe out the entire Shi'ar race by manipulating their fear and paranoia.
The X-Men's Full Powers Are Devastating
Immoral X-Men #1 outlined Hope Summers, and the rest of the Quiet Council of Sinisters, worries about external threats to the Sinister Empire coming from the cosmos, and while the Sinisters could continue to play "innocent little Earth" against these threats, Hope believed that they needed to create larger weapons so they could proactively take down the space civilizations that would eventually threaten them, like the Shi'ar or the powerful Kree/Skrull Alliance. Nightcrawlers #2 details how the Sinisters have managed to destroy several major cosmic civilizations. This includes Magik using the power of the demonic Muspelheim realm to fully destroy Asgard, Hope using the first tri-chimera - comprised of Meggan, Maggott, and Madrox - to devour Otherworld, and Mister Sinister using a "system killer" - a chimera of Proteus, Polaris, and Legion - to destroy the Nova Corps world of Xandar.
Nightcrawlers #2, which takes place 100 years after the fall of the Quiet Council, also details how in the 53rd year of Sinisters reign, "Charles-in-Sin" Xavier used chimeric brains made from the DNA of the fierce Shi'ar Empire while their warriors slaughter each other with the thought, "All out to get me" - a horrific ending for one of the most ancient and proud civilizations in the Marvel Universe.
Professor X Just Became a Planetary Threat
The horror of Xavier committing genocide against the powerful Shi'ar is made ever sharper in the context of Charles' long history with their society, including his romantic relationship with Majestrix Lilandra. Indeed, Xavier's daughter Xandra is half-human mutant and half-Shi'ar. Even though Xandra and Xavier seemingly love each other, Xandra is completely dedicated to the survival and safety of her Empire, so would vehemently oppose the Sinisters' assault unless she was already corrupted. Since Majestrix Xandra is half-mutant there is a chance Charles has resurrected her as a Sinister, but his destruction of a people he has such close emotional ties to highlights just how monstrous Sinister's personality virus really is.
What's truly terrifying is that while Sinister is bringing out each mutant's worst self, their flaws are still based in their real personalities, confirming that this planetary genocide is an extension of Xavier's own instincts and goals. It is horrifying to see the large scale, godlike devastation the X-Men's former leader Charles Xavier is easily able to accomplish when devoid of morals and convinced he is "protecting the dream," taking down entire planets without breaking a sweat and with a smile on his face.
