In a stunning new piece of Marvel Comics fan art starring the X-Men's Psylocke, the hero gets a photorealistic look that needs to be seen to be believed. Artist Kevin Chua shared his take on the popular mutant on Reddit, which shows the hero ready for action as she pulls out her sword while getting ready for her latest fight. At first glance, the fan art is so life-like that it could easily be mistaken for an actual real-life photo - but make no mistake, it's all the product of a single artists work.
Psylocke was created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe as the mutant hero began as two merged characters. Betsy Braddock, the sister of Captain Britain, had her mind and body swapped with an assassin named Kwannon. As a result, she became the version of Psylocke fans are most familiar with, capable of using her telekinetic powers to create weapons, among numerous other uses. The complicated mash-up was eventually resolved, as Psylocke was split back into two different people, as Betsy Braddock would continue as Captain Britain. At the same time, Kwannon kept the moniker and became her own hero. Despite her somewhat confusing backstory, Psylocke has remained a fan-favorite member of the X-Men who regularly appears in Marvel Comics stories to this day.
On their Reddit , artist Kevin Chua (@artbykevinchua) shared their incredible Psylocke fan art, which shows the X-Men hero striking a pose while pulling out her sword. The fan art brings Psylocke to life in her most iconic costume, wearing her classic bodysuit. The details, from her long black hair to her muscles and skin to her stunning appearance, all make the photorealistic look stand out. It seems unfair to call the piece fan art, as it's that good. Check out the Psylocke piece from Chua below.
Considering her complicated backstory, it's not surprising Psylocke hasn't been more of a live-action fixture in previous X-Men films. She made an appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse, where Olivia Munn played her, but ultimately didn't have much to do in the movie. The new photorealistic fan art shows that Psylocke deserves a bigger spotlight, as her look is tailor-made to be adapted on the big screen.
Regardless of Psylocke's standing in future X-Men movies or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the photorealistic fan art proves to be a stunning take on the character. The gorgeously rendered fan art captures Psylocke's beautiful appearance and costume as artist Kevin Chua does a brilliant job bringing the X-Men hero to life in the life-like piece.
