After escaping the hellscape of Sins of Sinister, the Rasputin only just made the jump into the Marvel Universe's main continuity. The Krakoan paradise that she was promised is finally within her grasp, and the Hellfire Gala is the perfect opportunity to celebrate. The high class affair is also a great way to introduce herself to more of her fellow mutants and the other heroes of Earth-616, but little do Rasputin and the other guests know that this year's Gala is set to end in tragedy.
Nearly all the entries in this year's extensive series of Hellfire Gala variant covers were shared last month, but three have remained a mystery until Marvel released one last week. The Hellfire Gala variant for X-Men Red #13 comes from artist Jamie McKelvie, and features Rasputin IV in a glorious new costume. Her organic steel skin and Soulsword are already quite striking, and her outfit takes the signature colors of her costume and transforms them into this elevated look, while gold accents on her heels, arm, face, and along her braid really bring an extra shine to the overall look.
X-Men's Hellfire Gala Welcomes Rasputin IV
Rasputin IV is a chimera - a genetically engineered hybridized mutant created by Mister Sinister. Rasputin IV possesses the powers of Kate 'Kitty' Pryde, Piotr Rasputin, Unus the Untouchable, Laura Kinney, and Quentin Quire, making her one of the most powerful mutants ever to exist. Impressively, she's managed to enter Marvel's present right as the third Hellfire Gala arrives. The celebration is a comic event which sees major heroes don one-time high fashion costumes for a night of partying, betrayal, and huge twists that set the stage for the next year of X-Men stories.
Rasputin IV Finally Exists in the Modern Day
Rasputin IV must have felt immense relief entering the modern day after experiencing her own hellish time. Sadly, Rasputin remains unaware of the irony of her situation. As press releases in the lead up to the Fall of X era have made clear, this year's Hellfire Gala will be disrupted by an Orchis strike ending in a national tragedy. Rasputin IV has arrived in the idyllic paradise that she was promised only for the rug to be ripped out from under her feet. While there is hope in mutantkind's resilience and the perseverance of Krakoa, regardless of the eventual outcome this strike will certainly be a wake-up call for Rasputin - if she wants a better future, she'll have to fight for it.
Rasputin IV Arrives Just in Time for Trouble
Despite the ill tidings on the horizon, Rasputin IV's outfit looks gorgeous - perhaps she'll even have the better part of the evening to party before tragedy strikes. However, as yet there's been no tease as to what Rasputin will be up to during the Fall of X, so maybe the celebrations result in something worse than just a wake-up call. Only time will tell, but until then, fans can enjoy how beautifully McKelvie has rendered Rasputin IV ahead of the X-Men's Hellfire Gala.
X-Men Red #13 will be available from Marvel Comics on July 19, 2023.
