Warning: Contains major spoilers for Sins of Sinister #1The X-Men's highly anticipated Sins of Sinister event has finally begun, and in its opening chapter the Krakoan Quiet Council has quickly weaponized the mutant's gift of immortality, using it as a tool to transform people from across the Marvel Universe into Mr. Sinister clones.
Krakoa's Resurrection Protocols have been a major part of the Krakoan Era since the nation's founding in 2019, and while it was kept secret for several years, the immortality secret was recently revealed to the entire world during the Judgment Day event. This event also revealed that mutant immortality is not exclusive to mutants, and the process can work on humans as well. Now, in Sins of Sinister, Krakoa has convinced humanity that they need a "limited X-Gene" given to them to allow access to the Resurrection Protocols and ensure immortality. However, longtime X-Men villain Mr. Sinister has been manipulating mutant DNA for some time in order to resurrect mutants with his own DNA implanted in them. So the limited X-Gene distributed to the world turns out to actually be a Trojan Horse for Mr. Sinister's personality to spread further, allowing all of Earth to become Sinister.
Krakoa's Immortality Is Secretly A Sinister Trojan Horse Virus
Mister Sinister's plan to turn the Earth into Planet limited X-Gene for ensured immortality through resurrection, is actually a virus that spreads the Sinister personality. Throughout the issue the corrupted X-Men convince powerful heroes like the Avengers to align themselves with the heroic mutants and take the X-Gene injection, ensuring that Earth's most powerful defenders all become Sinister.
Interestingly, Sinister reveals that he developed the Sinister personality virus to not completely overwrite the original person's personality, instead incorporating Sinister's personality and desires into them. One horrific example of Sinister corrupting a human mind is Ben Grimm's apparent murder of his Fantastic Four teammates, instigated by his own internal rage mixed with the poisonous influence of Sinister. While Immortal X-Men #10 made it seem like someone needed to die and be resurrected to become a Sinister clone, it now seems like all humans need to enter into Sinister's dominion is to get the X-gene injected into them. Mutants do not need the shot, so they still need to be killed and resurrected. The X-Men's immortality has been the greatest gift of their new era, allowing the mutants of Krakoa to fight their enemies to the death without actually dying and giving them a leg up on powerful enemies like Orchis. After the reveal of mutant immortality to the entire world, and Jean Grey creating the Phoenix Foundation to resurrect the most vulnerable humans, humanity was finally becoming more accepting of the mutant gift, which has now been horribly twisted into a weapon of Sinister.
Krakoa Gains Sinister Allies By Lying And Killing
Synopses of future issues in the Sins of Sinister event reveal that the Sinister agenda spreads across the entire Marvel Universe, meaning the Sinister X-Men have weaponized their gift of immortality against not only humanity, but the whole galaxy, truly perverting a once magical and sacred evolution of Earth's mutants.
