Xosha Roquemore has continued to put out fantastic TV shows, like Netflix’s Forever, and movies, like Captain America: Brave New World, proving her acting prowess. The talented actor studied at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, which is considered one of the best performing arts schools in the USA.
Since her debut in 2008, Roquemore has built a large portfolio filled with primarily comedy TV shows and movies, but she also has dramatic roles that show off an entirely different side of her abilities. The diversity within her portfolio comes down to the fact that Roquemore doesn’t like to be pigeonholed into one genre (via Television Academy). Looking at her career, ten projects starring Xosha Roquemore stand out above the rest in of entertainment value and the actor’s performance.

The TV show Black Monday is another excellent comedy that includes Xosha Roquemore in the cast. The show follows the fictional of five characters who take on the Wall Street old boys club, leading to Black Monday – the worst Wall Street stock market crash in history.
Roquemore plays Connie, a recurring character in seasons 1 and 2 of Black Monday. The show gives her the opportunity to show off her comedic abilities once again, though in a slightly different way. While The Mindy Project is much more lighthearted comedy, Black Monday has sharper and wittier comedy that dabbles in gallows humor.

Although Xosha Roquemore is best known for her comedic abilities, the emotional and gritty coming-of-age movie Precious is one of her best movies, proving she’s more than capable of handling a dramatic role. Based on the book Push by Sapphire, Precious follows the Black illiterate teen girl who was raped by her father, giving birth to two children. She gets a chance to improve her life by going to an alternative school.
Roquemore plays JoAnn Rogers, a student who wants to be a record producer. Although she’s only onscreen for a small amount of time, the character feels three-dimensional instead of flat, thanks to Roquemore’s moving performance.

Long before she got her big break, Xosha Roquemore starred in the absolutely hilarious 2013 comedy G.B.F. The film focuses on two closeted gay teens named Tanner and Brent, whose friendship is split up when Tanner gets outed. Tanner finds himself a hot commodity when girls leading three different cliques want him to be their gay best friend.
Roquemore plays Caprice Winters, the popular and dramatic teen who serves as the de facto leader of the choir kids, drama students, and minority students. Despite being almost thirty at the time of the movie’s release, the actor perfectly encapsulates the messiness of high school in her performance.

Like Precious, Brian Banks is one of Xosha Roquemore’s more serious projects; however, unlike the previous film, it’s based on a true story. Brian Banks follows the titular Black teen whose dreams of playing pro football are derailed when a classmate falsely accuses him of rape. However, he receives help from the California Innocence Project to exonerate him a decade later.

15 Best Movies Based On A True Story
Movies based on true stories are often more exciting and unpredictable than fiction, and their real-world context gives them a sense of urgency.
Given the sensitive nature of the story, Xosha Roquemore had an extra difficult job. She plays Kennesha Rice, the person who falsely accuses him of rape. It would have been easy for her to play the character as completely evil, given her actions. However, she does a great job of humanizing Kennesha while also showing the unforgivable harm she did to Brian Banks.

The romantic drama Cherish the Day is an anthological show, and the first season (which stars Xosha Roquemore) tells the love story of Gently James and Evan Fisher. Roquemore plays Gently, a free-spirited but guarded young woman who works as a caretaker.
Considering Ava DuVernay created and produced the show, nobody should be surprised that Cherish the Day lands in the ten best TV shows & movies starring Xosha Roquemore. DuVerney writes a compelling story and develops great characters, and Roquemore’s acting abilities heighten the script. The actor shows many sides of Gently James, creating a character that’s easy to invest in emotionally. Because the show is anthological, she only appears in Cherish the Day season 1, though.

Out of all the best Xosha Roquemore TV shows, Atlanta is the only one where she plays a guest role. The actor appears in “Tarrare,” an absolutely wild and entertaining Atlanta episode packed with celebrity guest stars. The inclusion of Alexander Skarsgård overshadows Roquemore, but there’s something to be appreciated about her scene.
Xosha’s character, who is named Xosha, is one of the many guests who engage in cannibalism. There’s something laughably bizarre about her eating human flesh with a napkin over her head. The hilarity of “Tarrare" helps push forward the episode’s message about the privilege that comes with having money.

- Adult Swim

- Bill Lobley
- Creator(s)
- Adele Williams
Oh My God…Yes! A Series of Extremely Relatable Circumstances (also called Oh My God, Yes!) debuted on Adult Swim in 2025, and it follows three quirky Black women who explore femininity and dating in the 30th century. The inclusion Oh My God, Yes! might seem surprising to some, considering the show was panned by audiences. However, the deeply underrated Adult Swim animated series is not only funny but also shows off the wide range of Xosha Roquemore’s acting abilities.
Voice actors and onscreen actors require different skill sets, making it difficult for them to cross over into the other categories. However, Roquemore proves herself capable of voice-acting in a comedic role. Her timing is on point, and she can effectively convey emotions through inflection.
2 Captain America: Brave New World

- Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross / Red Hulk
- Writers
- Dalan Musson, Malcolm Spellman
- Prequel(s)
- Avengers: Infinity War
- Franchise(s)
- Captain America, Marvel Cinematic Universe
Captain America: Brave New World is one of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe movies from Phase 5. The film follows Sam Wilson, the former Falcon and new Captain America, as he gets pulled in the middle of an international incident. In the MCU movie, Xosha Roquemore plays Leila Taylor, a Secret Service agent who serves as Sam Wilson’s liaison.
Unfortunately, Captain America: Brave New World wasted the Captain America love interest, despite her ability to play a bigger role. Regardless of the disappointing way they sidelined the character, Leila Taylor is, without a doubt, one of Xosha Roquemore’s best performances. She’s smart, funny, and tough.
In Marvel Comics, Leila Taylor is a journalist, not a Secret Service agent. She also discovers that her best friend (and later love interest) Sam Wilson is Falcon before almost anyone else.
1 Forever
Xosha Roquemore Plays Shelly Clark
In May 2025, the onscreen adaptation of Forever by Judy Blume was released on Netflix, hitting the Top 10 TV Shows list quickly. The story follows Keisha and Justin, two Black teenagers living in Los Angeles who fall in love and decide to have sex. One of the changes the Netflix show makes to Judy Blume’s book is the family structure of Keisha (who is named Katherine in the book). Instead of having a sibling and married parents, Keisha is an only child to a single mother, Shelly, who Xosha Roquemore plays.
Xosha Roquemore’s character goes through a lot in the course of eight episodes, allowing the actor to show off a wide range of emotions. Luckily, Roquemore rises to the occasion. Two particularly stand-out scenes show Shelly explaining to Keisha that Christian committed a crime and the interaction between Shelly and Dawn.
