CBS has just promoted Emily Osment to series regular status for Young Sheldon season 6. Osment's character, Mandy, was introduced earlier in Young Sheldon season 5 as Georgie's (Montana Jordan) new romantic interest. The pair's relationship is currently on rocky grounds, but its most recent developments have paved the way for Mandy's continued presence on the show.

Like the rest of Cooper family, Georgie has had his own arc in Young Sheldon season 5. He dropped out of school, which didn't sit well with his parents, but he was adamant. Instead, he planned on working full time, thinking of honing his entrepreneurial skills. Meemaw (Annie Potts) recruited her grandson to help her run her laundromat/gambling den. While manning the business, Georgie came across Mandy and was immediately smitten. They began dating, but Georgie had to lie about being 21 instead of 17 years old, because Mandy's almost 30. When he came clean about it in Young Sheldon's 100th episode, she broke up with him. But not long after their split, they are forced to reconcile because she's pregnant.

Since then, Young Sheldon season 5 has been focused on developing Georgie's narrative. But as the year winds down, there's curiosity as to how long the plotline will continue. Now, Osment's promotion to Young Sheldon season 6 series regular (per Deadline) pretty much confirms that this story will continue to play out moving forward. That said, no additional details have been released with regard to the specifics of her role in the future.

Georgie and Mandy exchange glances in Young Sheldon

Young Sheldon co-creator Steven Molaro previously confirmed that Cooper patriarch George's (Lance Barber) infidelity storyline will be revisited towards the end of the year. This is backed up by the re-emergence of Brenda Sparks (Melissa Peterman), whom George has a crush on. So while Georgie's current predicament has been the focus of Young Sheldon's storytelling, chances are that it will slowly shift in the next few episodes as season 5 winds down. At the same time, their son's situation is forcing Mary (Zoe Perry) and George to revisit their own relationship. For the uninitiated, Sheldon's (Iain Armitage) parents were once in the same boat as they were forced to get married after George got Mary pregnant out of wedlock.

With Mandy confirmed to play a bigger part in Young Sheldon season 6, fans should expect that her pregnancy will continue to factor into the show for the foreseeable future. For what it's worth, Molaro also revealed that abortion is off the table. So, despite The Big Bang Theory not mentioning anything about Sheldon having a niece or nephew, it's possible that Mandy actually gives birth to Georgie's firstborn. Perhaps, eventually, they even fix their romantic relationship, with Mandy and Georgie ending up married. With Osment on board for Young Sheldon season 6, anything is possible.
