When fans met Liza Miller in the pilot of Younger, she was a 40-year-old woman who was getting divorced and leaving behind her life in suburbia. Dreaming of working in NYC publishing, she decided to pretend to be 26 years old, and it worked. After landing a great job at Empirical Press, she fell in love with young tattoo artist Josh and realized that she was in way over her head.
Even after the other characters learned about Liza's real age, Younger stayed fresh, relevant, and fun. With juicy and addictive plotlines and a glimpse at the world of books, there are countless reasons to watch. While many of the show's main characters are kind and compelling, others are much more lackluster and harder to like.
Caitlin Miller
Liza's daughter Caitlin doesn't leave a great impression on Younger. After studying abroad, she returns to New York and seems to pick and choose when she wants to talk to her mom. Sometimes she acts like a wise, much older person, and other times, she's full of complaints and wants to lean on her mom too much.
Caitlin isn't very likable and when compared to the other characters, she isn't as well-drawn, either. She dates a middle-aged man later on in the series, a situation that Liza can tell will be a big problem, and she doesn't listen to advice or well-meaning criticism, which is frustrating to watch.
Clare
Josh falls for Clare, but it's hard for Younger fans to like a character who seems to be taking him far away from Liza. Since Clare is from Ireland, she and Josh get married so she can stay in NYC.
As it turns out, Clare doesn't have actual feelings for Josh and she wants the marriage for her green card. This doesn't make her easy to like, as Josh is a kind and thoughtful person who needs to find real love and a true partner. Clare also surprises Josh by not telling him about her pregnancy. She seems self-absorbed and like she doesn't have other people's best interests at heart.
Zane Anders
Compared to the other characters, Zane is only likable some of the time. While he's smart and ambitious, he plays games with Kelsey and never stops manipulating her.
Zane seems to genuinely like Kelsey, but he can't get past his competitive nature, and this makes it hard to root for him. While he and Kelsey have a few real moments when he seems nice and polite, he's always looking one step ahead and that makes it hard to think that he's a truly nice person.
Charles Brooks
The love triangle featuring Josh, Liza, and Charles is a fascinating one. It's hard to decide whether Liza's age-appropriate boss is her one true love or if she should get back together with Josh. Many fans are divided on this.
At first, Charles is stiff and formal, as he likes Liza from the moment he meets her but has to stay professional. He doesn't seem to have many layers to him, but as time goes on, he reveals himself to be kind, quirky, and a great father. Viewers fall for him as Liza does, as he's a romantic lover of literature who wants to build a life with her.
Lauren Heller
Kelsey's good friend Lauren is intelligent, spunky, and always up for an adventure. She works in PR and is full of new ideas for a fun and fabulous event that she wants to plan.
Lauren can be immature, like when she tries to take over planning Kelsey's wedding to Thad, and she still lives at home even though she's working and in her twenties. For the most part, though, Lauren is a loyal friend who never stops being there for Liza and Kelsey.
Diana Trout
When viewers first meet Diana, she's cold, calculated, and only focused on herself. She loves her position as Empirical's Head of Marketing and doesn't have much of a personal life.
As Liza gets to know Diana, it's clear that she's sad, insecure, and lonely. She wishes she had a big group of friends and a partner to share her life with, as her success is pretty empty. Fans like Diana a lot more once she warms up to Liza, and by the end of the sixth season, they're fairly close. It's sweet watching her marry Enzo and finding happiness.
Liza Miller
Liza gets the hang of dressing as a 20-something and always shows up to work looking fun and trendy. But while she has the look down, she has a lot more to figure out about balancing her two worlds.
While Liza is the main character and therefore should be the easiest to love on the show, she's lying to people she cares about, and that creates some problems. Liza is a good person and her intentions are pure, as she wants to herself now that she's divorced and on her own, but Josh, Charles, Kelsey, and Diana can't believe that she would attempt this ruse.
Maggie
Liza's artist best friend Maggie is a totally loveable character. She's never been scared of living her truth and has always lived a free-spirited existence in Brooklyn. She's happy living the single life, although as time goes on, she wonders if she missed out by letting go of a woman she truly loved.
Maggie s Liza, even when she's not sure about her lie, and this proves that she's a true friend, as most people wouldn't want their friend living with them for months. Maggie is also a lot of fun to watch as she's hilarious and witty.
Kelsey Peters
It will be exciting to see Kelsey thrive in the publishing world when Younger comes back for a seventh season. Kelsey is a beloved character because she's nice to Liza right away. Instead of being envious that another pretty young person is working at her office, Kelsey offers to show her the ropes.
Fans feel like they know Kelsey after watching her and Liza run their Millennial imprint, and Kelsey is a determined and strong person who will always succeed. She's not afraid to be vulnerable, like when she becomes publisher and can't handle the overwhelming stress, and that makes her relatable.
Josh
Josh is the most likable character on Younger, and his street-smart, artistic, kind personality lights up every scene that he's in.
Fans love watching Josh and Liza's romantic scenes and it's definitely tough when they spent time apart. Josh is a wonderful character because he's exactly himself and would never want to change the person he's with. He proves that he's the real deal when he learns Liza's secret and still wants to be with her. He understands her reasons and s her no matter what. He also does the right thing and steps up when Clare has his baby.
