Summary

  • Yuma's strategic deck in Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal relies on powerful cards for dueling success.
  • Trap cards like Halfway to Forever provide Yuma with unique advantages in battles.
  • Monsters like Utopia Ray Victory and Utopia Beyond enhance Yuma's offensive power during duels.

Yuma Tsukumo, the protagonist of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal anime, began his journey as a novice duelist who knew almost nothing about the game. Thanks to the help of his mentor Astral, and the many powerful cards he acquired throughout the series, his deck became one of the most powerful in the series.

Yuma’s deck is without a doubt one of the most talented players of his generation, with amazing cards by his side to help him win the toughest of opponents. Nonetheless, not all the Monsters, Spells, and Traps in his possession are equally powerful, as only a limited number have what it takes to be considered the best of the best.

While Yugi's heart of the cards was incredibly powerful in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, a later protagonist has an ability that outclasses it.

10 Halfway to Forever

Giving Yuma’s Destroyed Monsters Another Chance To Shine

Trap Cards may not have been the focus of Yuma’s deck, as his ace monster Utopia already gave him amazing protection. Nonetheless, the defensive tools that he did use in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal series was impressively powerful. Case in point, is the unique Halfway to Forever, a Trap Card that would utilize the graveyard to give the more advantage.

This card could be activated after two or more monsters were destroyed during the same turn. Halfway to Forever would use two of these monsters as materials for the Special Summon of an XYZ Monster. Thanks to this card, Yuma would be able to make use of cards that would otherwise become irrelevant to the game. Still, its activation conditions rely heavily on the opponent destroying monsters, which is why it can sometimes be considered as a dead card in hand.

The most prominent and powerful duelist in all of Yu-Gi-Oh! is hands-down Yugi Muto. Here are some trap cards he always turns to in times of trouble.

9 Double or Nothing!

A Way To Turn Utopia Into a Powerhouse

To utilize his Utopia’s defensive abilities as a powerful offense, Yuma would rely on the power of his Spell card, Double or Nothing! Whenever a monster on the ’s side of the field would have their attack negated, this card would double the attack of the targeted creature and give them another chance at battle.

By utilizing Double or Nothing after using Utopia’s effect to negate an attack, Yuma would be able to boost the power of his monster. This increase in battle power was often enough to destroy any opposing creature standing in his way. It was thanks to this card that Yuma was able to defeat Astral during their final duel. Nonetheless, the fact that it requires an attack negation to be activated reduces its versatility.

8 Goblindbergh

Amazing Monster to Facilitate XYZ Summons

Yuma’s deck was centered around quickly summoning powerful XYZ Monsters to the field. Goblindbergh is a creature that would greatly facilitate this goal, as it had a perfect effect for the protagonist’s strategy. If this monster was Normal Summoned to the field, it would allow Yuma to immediately invoke a Level 4 or lower creature from his hand.

Goblindbergh would then change itself into Defense Position, which can seem negative as the card has no defensive capabilities. Yet, the value of this monster relies upon its ability to grant Yuma a Rank 4 XYZ Summon with just one card. Goblindbergh is still used to this day in decks that require vast materials to summon powerful XYZ Monsters.

7 Kagetokage

The Easiest Way To Summon a Rank 4 Monster in Yumas Deck

Created to allow its to gain access to their XYZ Monster, Kagetokage is a card that helped Yuma win on more than one occasion. Behind its unassuming appearance, this creature hides a powerful and outstandingly useful ability. When its summons a Level 4 monster, Kagetokage could be convoked to the field right after.

Thanks to this card, Yuma would have immediate access to a Rank 4 XYZ monster, considerably increasing his advantage early in the game. While not overtly powerful, Kagetokage was strong enough to become a key component of the protagonist’s strategy. In the real-life competitive game, this monster was considered one of the best during the Zexal era.

6 Rank-Up-Magic Astral Force

Increasing the Power of Yuma’s Monsters Once per Turn

While Yuma was not lacking in useful allies to make his XYZ Summons easier, it was always important for him to have other ways to access his high-rank creatures. Similar to other Rank-Up Spells, this card would allow the to Summon a creature that was 1 or 2 Ranks higher than another already on the field. The targeted monster would become material for the newly summoned being.

What made Astral Force better than other Rank-Up cards is its ability to add itself to the ’s hand by not drawing a card from the deck at the start of the turn. Thanks to this distinctive effect, Yuma could use this card as many times as he needed, summoning more powerful monsters each time.

5 Number C39: Utopia Ray Victory

A Monster With an Incredibly Powerful Offensive Power

Whenever Yuma was trying to win a game as quickly and effectively as possible, he would resort to the impressive offensive power of his Utopia Ray Victory. This card is among the strongest in the protagonist’s deck, despite not appearing like it at first glance. Despite having only 2800 attack points, which may not seem impressive, Ray Victory could grow into a much more powerful being.

By detaching one of its XYZ materials whenever it was involved in a battle, this version of Utopia could negate the effects of the monster it was fighting against. It would also increase its attack points by the amount of power its opponent’s monster had. This means that Ray Victory could destroy any monster that may have been causing Yuma any problems during a duel.

Still, one must not be fooled by its appearance, as it possesses one of the most devastating effects in the game.

Utopic Future is a creature that cannot be destroyed by a battle of any kind and also prevents its from taking damage. If this card was ever involved in an attack, the monster it battled would become Yuma’s for the rest of the turn. Taking control of an opponent’s monster is one of the best effects a Yu-Gi-Oh! card can have. With this ability, Yuma would be able to protect his Life Points, while also stealing his adversary’s most powerful creature.

A Card That Can Steal Various Opponent Monsters

Amid the powerful Number Monsters introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal anime, only one has become a staple of competitive play, Number 11: Big Eye. This imposing creature has only one effect, but it is an ability that could potentially win Yuma any duel he was involved with.

Once per turn, Big Eye could detach one of its materials to target a creature on the opponent’s side of the field. If not interrupted, the targeted card would change owners for the rest of the turn, effectively becoming a member of Yuma’s team.

The only downside of this effect was that Big Eye could not attack the turn when it used this ability. Even with this restriction, Number 11 was once one of the most powerful XYZ monsters available for competitive players to use in TCG tournaments.
