Snyder's DC Return Comments Should End Netflix's Snyderverse Speculation
Snyderverse Fans Have Campaigned For Netflix To Continue The DC Franchise
Snyder fans have been trying to repeat the campaign that led to 2021's Zack Snyder's Justice League becoming possible. The new campaign that has been going on for some time asks for Netflix, Snyder's new home studio, to continue the Snyderverse by buying the rights for the universe from Warner Bros. Discovery. The complexity involved in Netflix getting the rights to use iconic characters from DC, like Batman and Superman, to continue the Snyderverse already made the deal pretty much impossible.
With James Gunn's new DC Universe starting in 2024 and the last movies of the DCEU in 2023 all bombing at the box office, continuing the Snyderverse would not make much sense. Now, Snyder's comments should end the speculation that the director's Snyderverse could find new life at Netflix. While Snyder previously said, "If Netflix owned the rights to the DC characters in my universe, I would absolutely [continue the Snyderverse]," that seems to be the director's dream scenario.
In reality, Snyder's new comments after the release of his Netflix film Rebel Moon reveal that the director is ready to move on from DC. With a Rebel Moon sequel scheduled for an April 2024 release and more projects planned for the new universe, Snyder might finally have the creative freedom that the DCEU did not allow him. With the director looking to create new IP, the speculation over Zack Snyder's DC Snyderverse continuing at Netflix should end.
