Summary

  • A new remake of Ocarina of Time could explore Sheik's story during the timeskip, offering a fresh perspective on the classic game.
  • Gameplay centered on Sheik could introduce new stealth mechanics and provide insight into Hyrule and its inhabitants.
  • Sheik's unique attributes could add depth to the character and offer a different experience for players.

Although Ocarina of Time 3D made popular changes to the iconic title, including improved graphics and various alterations to gameplay features. However, applying some much more radical changes could become the basis of the best OoT remake of all.

Undoubtedly one of the most influential games of all time, Ocarina of Time gave The Legend of Zelda its first 3D world design, a turning point in the series’ history even before considering the games’ many iconic gameplay and lore elements. It is little surprise that its 3DS remaster sold extremely well, although the fact that only the original has been ported to newer consoles since can feel somewhat disappointing. On the other hand, this also means that a new remake would have less direct competition, making it an interesting candidate for a future Legend of Zelda game.

A New Ocarina Of Time Remake Should Include More Sheik Content

Sheik displays the Triforce of Wisdom in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

A Legend of Zelda game which actually features Zelda as the protagonist has been a popular topic of discussion for many years, and Ocarina of Time offers a unique chance to explore this concept. More specifically, during OoT’s seven-year timeskip, what Sheik did during Ocarina of Time would provide an interesting new angle to examining the classic game from.

An Ocarina of Time remake that either focuses entirely on Sheik, or includes extended sections from the disguised princess’ point of view, would help the game to immediately stand out from prior versions. If handled correctly, such sequences could easily become a highlight of a new game. Of course, if integrated into the original story, this would expose Sheik’s true identity long before Link discovers it. That being said, a 25-year-old twist would hardly have the same impact today, and may not even be much of a surprise in any case.

Sheik’s red eyes are a notable difference to Zelda’s natural blue ones in Ocarina of Time, which helped to preserve the illusion of them being separate individuals. However, Sheik’s distinctive blonde hair makes her stand out when compared to other of the Sheikah, especially now that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have shown white hair to be a common trait for the tribe. As a result, even if a person is unfamiliar with Ocarina of Time, the more modern titles may have inadvertently ruined any impact that the eventual reveal of Sheik actually being Princess Zelda could have had.

Although Sheikah characters have most commonly been depicted with white hair, Skyward Sword’s Impa actually has blonde hair, showing that this isn’t necessarily always the case.

Sheik Could Introduce Unique Gameplay Features To Zelda: Ocarina Of Time

Gameplay focused on Sheik could easily offer a very different experience to the usual Zelda formula. In addition to a deeper exploration of Sheikah magic and abilities, it is easy to see such a game being heavily stealth-oriented. Sheik could help people from the shadows, intersecting with Link’s own journey at various points while also independently learning OoT’s signature songs and striking against Ganondorf. The game could also provide plenty of new information about Hyrule and its inhabitants during this timeframe, such as showing in detail how familiar NPCs grew and changed during the original Ocarina of Time’s timeskip.

Zelda Characters Who Could Make A Better Protagonist Than Link

Since the beginning of the Legend of Zelda series, Link has always been the star, but there are many other characters who could serve as protagonists.

Of course, such a title would not be entirely new ground for Zelda. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity has proven that a game detailing an established, but unseen period of history can work very well for the franchise. On the other hand, it is also interesting to note that there has already been a canceled Zelda game based on Sheik, or at least a new character sharing the name, which never made it beyond the initial planning stages. The concept itself is still highly intriguing, and a revival of at least some of the associated designs could prove very popular.

A game focusing on the exploits of Princess Zelda’s most iconic disguise could be the foundation of an incredible new take on Ocarina of Time. Sheik spends a large part of the game as a figure of mystery, and even when her mask is removed, the details of exactly how she has spent the last seven years go unexplained. Giving Sheik a prominent role in a new remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time would put a new spin on the classic title, and allow Princess Zelda to come into her own as a major protagonist.
