The Master Sword’s condition does not look good in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s released trailers, and the game might use a familiar plot point to restore the weapon’s power. Based on the limited information that Nintendo has revealed, Tears of the Kingdom will feature various new abilities for Link to use, thanks to the mysterious magic in his right arm. Unfortunately, although the Hylian has obtained new powers, he lost one of his strongest weapons against Ganondorf, the Master Sword, which somehow has become corrupted and broken in half.
In BOTW, players can obtain the Master Sword by visiting the Lost Woods, where the weapon lies waiting on a pedestal. Players need to have at least 13 hearts in BOTW to take the Master Sword because the process will quickly drain Link’s health. Although the weapon is powerful, it seems to have less lore importance since players can actually defeat Calamity Ganon without using the Master Sword. However, there is a chance that the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom will have a bigger presence, especially because the revived Ganondorf might require a solid hit from a powered-up Master Sword to stop him completely.
The Sacred Flames Could Return For Tears Of The Kingdom's Master Sword
The Sacred Flames from Skyward Sword could make reappearances in Tears of the Kingdom. The three sacred relics are used to enhance the Goddess Sword and transform it into the True Master Sword, which can defeat and seal away Demise. A similar event could occur in the sequel, where Link tries to find the Sacred Flames in order to restore his broken Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom. A version of the Flames can even be seen in a 2022 trailer from Nintendo where Link stands in front of a ball of magical fire that seems to resonate with the Master Sword.
Tears Of The Kingdom's Master Sword Could Mean Link Collects Sacred Flames
Tears of the Kingdom could use this chance to feature proper Zelda dungeons, which are missing in Breath of the Wild. Link could be required to clear three massive dungeons where the Sacred Flames are located to prove his might and courage in front of the Goddesses and allow him to use the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom. The sequel could also use the dungeons from Skyward Sword as inspirations, with Link exploring an ancient flying ship to reach Nayru's Flame.
Of course, it could also be possible that the fire Link encounters in the 2022 trailer is not a Sacred Flame. After all, there is no Flame with golden color in Skyward Sword. Still, more information could be gained in a possible Nintendo Direct for Tears of the Kingdom. For now, although it is merely a theory, there is a chance that the Sacred Flames could make a return in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, where Link attempts to fix the broken Master Sword with the power of the three sacred relics.
