The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom brought with it an attempted return to classic dungeons, taking the form of five Temples throughout the game. A familiar concept for long-time players of the series, Link goes through five Temples: Wind, Fire, Water, Lightning, and Spirit, and each one varies in difficulty. The requirements tend to be minimal for most Temples, but the Spirit Temple is more demanding and, regardless of difficulty, can't be done before the other four Temples.

Temples are a classic part of Zelda games, and Tears of the Kingdom brings them back as a set of dungeons. The open-world structure of Tears of the Kingdom means that players can decide which order they want to complete the Temples in, but that also means that players could end up pursuing a Temple they aren't yet equipped to clear. To help players in deciding which Temple to pursue next, below are all five Temples, ranked in order of least to most difficult.

5 Wind Temple

There's a reason that Purah strongly suggests that players head to assist the Rito first, and that's because it'll lead players to the easiest Temple in Tears of the Kingdom. After players reach Lookout Landing and open the map, they can make the decision to head straight to the Wind Temple. The Wind Temple takes the form of a flying ship, and players don't need any particular items before heading inside.

Cold Resistance Armor and some food items are useful for this temple, and luckily armor and food with that resistance is available early in TOTK. From there, players will need to complete five turbine puzzles and then defeat the boss, Colgera. As a reward, players will be able to use Tulin's Sage abilities after completing the Temple.

4 Fire Temple

The Fire Temple in TOTK is underneath Death Mountain in the Eldin region and requires players to complete the quest "Yunobo of Goron City" to enter. NPCs will suggest the player make their way to Goron City after completing the Wind Temple, making it a natural second stop in the main quest. Like the Wind Temple's chill, only armor with environmental protection against the heat is recommended for doing the Fire Temple, but it always helps to have food items for restoring health. To get into the Fire Temple, Yunobo will break open the entrance for Link.

In the Fire Temple, players have to release five locks. After completing this set of puzzles, players will fight TOTK's Fire Temple boss, Marbled Gohma. Luckily, Yunobo's ability provides players with a lot of help against this boss, and like in the Wind Temple, Link can use Yunobo's ability around the map, and in other Temples, as a reward for completing the Fire Temple.

3 Water Temple

Introduction to the Water Temple in Tears of the Kingdom

The Water Temple in Ocarina of Time is known as a frustrating dungeon, but its newer counterpart is one of the easier Temples in Tears of the Kingdom. For this Temple, players need to head to the Zora and complete a set of quests with Sidon. There aren't any required items that players need before heading into the Water Temple, although items like Zonai Fans will help when it comes to puzzle solving. Additionally, Splash Fruit or Chu Chu Jelly will prove incredibly useful in this Temple.

Instead of turbines, players need to complete four water pipe puzzles in the Water Temple. This leads to the boss fight of the Water Temple once all the puzzles have been solved. Like with the TOTK Wind Temple, Link will be able to use Sidon's ability outside the temple as a reward for saving Zora's Domain from the sludge that was causing issues for the area.

2 Lightning Temple

Link returns to the Gerudo Desert in Tears of the Kingdom to take on the Lightning Temple, and having Tulin's ability will prove useful here. In Gerudo Town, players complete a questline with Riju that leads to entering the Lightning Temple with her help. Players might want to have some Lightning Resistance gear before heading to this Temple, but it isn't absolutely required - it's more of a safety precaution.

Once inside the Lightning Temple with Riju, players have another set of puzzles to solve just like with the previous Temples. The elevator needs power from four batteries to function, so Link needs to solve the puzzles revolving around these batteries to progress to the Tears of the Kingdom Lightning Temple boss. Just like the previous Temples, Riju's ability becomes available to players for use around the map after defeating the boss.

1 Spirit Temple

In Tears of the Kingdom, the Spirit Temple is the last one completed because players can't access it until the other four are done. At this point, players are approaching the end of the game, and Mineru's quest "Guidance of Ages Past" leads Link to this final and most difficult Temple. A big part of entering this Temple involves reconstructing a golem for Mineru that will then assist Link against the Temple's boss, and players can find equipment to add to the golem to give it more power.

The Spirit Temple is fairly short in Tears of the Kingdom, but without at least one cannon equipped on Mineru's Construct. There's a high possibility of taking damage during this boss fight, so it doesn't hurt for players to make sure they have a decent amount of health and food to restore hearts for safety. After this boss fight, the player's one step closer to the end of the game, and all five Temples are complete.

Knowing powerful Tears of the Kingdom cooking recipes can help prepare players for their journey into any Temple, and the game is overall lenient in letting players decide how they want to approach Link's quest to find Princess Zelda and help the various regions of Hyrule with the problems they face as a result of the Upheaval. Overall, the Temples have the inspiration of classic Zelda dungeons, but they don't make a full return to that style, and they still allow Link to gain abilities like in BOTW from the Divine Beasts. The Temples aren't as difficult as those in previous games for the most part, but they do add a classic feeling to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
