With the release of the newest trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a popular theory about time travel has gained new life. Some Zelda fans have long since theorized that TOTK will involve time travel as an important game mechanic and plot device. The latest trailer for the sequel has now provided a firmer basis for this possibility.
A long-standing theory regarding Tears of the Kingdom suggests that time travel will play an important role. Of course, time travel has been used in various ways throughout the Legend of Zelda franchise as an important game mechanic, such as in Majora’s Mask or Oracle of Ages. In trailers for Tears of the Kingdom, Link can now be seen reversing the falling of stone blocks from sky islands, as well as similar displays with other objects. Some believe this to be the next application of time travel in the Zelda franchise, rewinding the movement of various objects through time and space.
Prolific Zonai Relics In TOTK May Point To Time Travel
The prolific appearance of Zonai-style dragon head designs in Link’s new weapons and vehicles, particularly in TOTK’s newest trailer, has also begun to lend credence to the idea of a much larger example of time travel. With the Zonai extinct by the time of BOTW, the question is how Link will gain access to so much of what seems to be their technology. One explanation is that Link may actually travel back in time to long before BOTW, to a period when the Zonai still existed. This could also explain the brief glimpses of Link with a different hairstyle and clothing, a new style for this more primitive era.
Link Might Encounter The Zonai In Tears Of The Kingdom
The Zonai tribe is one of the biggest mysteries posed by Breath of the Wild. An ancient, warlike civilization that resided in Faron, the Zonai are often associated with the enormous Lomei Labyrinths due to the fact that pieces of their Barbarian Armor set can be found at the center of each. Additionally, the fact the Labyrinths hide Sheikah Shrines suggests a connection between the two tribes. Now, in Tears of the Kingdom, the Zonai are becoming much more prominent. If this theory proves true, the Zonai people themselves could also make an appearance; for example, a mysterious figure seen in the newest trailer could be associated with the tribe.
The trailers for Tears of the Kingdom have created as many mysteries as they have answered questions. The full role of the Zonai is one such intriguing detail, clearly important but ultimately still unclear. Another is the possibility of time travel. With the evidence mounting, it seems increasingly likely that this classic Zelda mechanic will be making an appearance, possibly in connection to the tribe. As well as reversing the motion of objects, Link might travel back to the time of the Zonai, or even bear witness to Calamity Ganon’s origins in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In the end, only time will tell how Link’s next adventure will unfold.
