One Nintendo's relaxing series of town-building and life simulator games, where players develop and design a village populated with adorable, anthropomorphic animals. Released exclusive on the Switch last March, New Horizons greatly expands the customization options given to players, allowing them to completely terraform the land and rivers of their island, as well as set paths and custom designs.
Animal Crossing players have been using these tools to pay tribute to their favorite media franchises and characters in stunning displays of creativity. Some have entire island was made to look like Blathers the museum curator. Now, someone else has immortalized another icon within the landscape of their island.
Reddit B4SSOON posted a Matilda and Taxi star Danny DeVito when viewed from the map screen. Images of the island in progress went viral on Reddit and Twitter, until B4SSOON was able to prove their ownership of the island with the brief video. Several references to Frank Reynolds, DeVito's character on the hit sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia are made, including a player dressed as "Ongo Gablogian", Frank's art-collecting alter ego. The Ongo cosplayer offers their visitor some eggs, as these are certainly trying times. Fans of Always Sunny will recognize the post's title as a reference to Frank's brash flirting methods.
DeVito's acting career spans nearly five decades, and his unmistakable voice and energy have made him well respected across multiple generations and one of the most beloved actors still working today. B4SSOON's island's name clearly shows they wanted to pay tribute to the legend from the get-go.
While the game suffers from some quality of life issues, Animal Crossing released at the perfect time to provide people with some solace and relaxation in an era full of stress and uncertainty. It also has become a replacement for socializing, spawning an actual talk show conducted in-game and skyrocketing online sales. The steady stream of crazy creations hasn't shown signs of slowing nearly two months out from release, and there are definitely more incredible islands currently in the works in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
