Warning: Spoilers ahead for Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverAn Ant-Man Easter egg in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the Scott Lang namedrop in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sets up the character's newfound notoriety in the movie.
A news report heard in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever reveals that the current Ant-Man has published his autobiography, Scott Lang: Look Out for the Little Guy!. The character's books previously appeared in the D23 Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer, with Scott being treated as a celebrity after helping to Ms. Marvel, whose place in MCU Phase 4's timeline is confusing, also teased Ant-Man now being famous with the mention of a Scott Lang podcast called Big Me, Little Me. While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Ant-Man mention is just a minor Easter egg, it continues MCU Phase 4’s idea that Scott Lang is now a major celebrity in the MCU.
Why Phase 4 Has Turned Ant-Man Into A Celebrity
Ant-Man becoming an Iron Man-like celebrity in the MCU may seem like just a long-running Phase 4 joke, but it also completely flips what audiences have seen of Scott Lang previously, and it sets up a different Ant-Man for his and the Wasp's sequel. Scott Lang being the MCU’s new Tony Stark in of notoriety obviously has a comedic potential that perfectly fits the character. Seeing the forgotten Avenger — who kids didn't even recognize at the beginning of Avengers: Endgame — become one of the world’s most popular superheroes after saving the day can certainly make for some hilarious moments in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
The idea can also contribute to Scott Lang’s character arc. He has always looked down on himself, especially with regard to how he wasn't able to be there for his daughter. Audiences were originally introduced to Scott Lang in the first Ant-Man as someone who was struggling to find a job and whose main goal was to become a father that Cassie could be proud of. Now Scott is a global celebrity, as previously revealed in Ms. Marvel and the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer and now confirmed in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and hopefully that means he's finally able to do right by his daughter as well.
Ant-Man's Fame Avoids Phase 4's Avengers Money Problem
One popular comic book debate that the MCU has made mainstream concerns how the Avengers pay the bills. Tony Stark stated in the Sokovia Accords have been revoked. Either way, thanks in part to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Ant-Man Easter egg, it seems like Scott Lang has found a way to capitalize on his superhero feats and make a living.
