Warning! Spoilers for The Boys comic book series below
In The Boys comic universe filled with depraved Supes with some of the most bizarre and ridiculous abilities, Gumchum from Team Titanic might have the worst "powers" of them all. The hero, who's part of the C-List Teen Titans parody team, has the special power of offering people gum. Yes, Gumchum's superpower is to make sure his teammates and friends have a piece of gum if needed.
The Boys comic book series from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson is a crude parody of the world of superheroes, starring the self-titled team that hunts down Supes. While there are many incredibly powerful Supes such as Homelander, Black Noir, and Stormfront, The Boys universe also features some bizarre pastiches of the genre with less than impressive abilities. Among the weirdest heroes is a Wolverine parody that only says the phrase "gonna," and Gumchum, whose powers are so useless that it's hard to understand how he's considered a Supe.
In The Boys #63 by Garth Ennis, Russ Braun, Darick Robertson, Tony Avina, and Simon Bowland, the team takes on a new group of heroes called the Team Titanic, a parody of DC's Teen Titans. The team features heroes such as Muzzletov (who, like Zatanna, speaks backward), Dry-Hump (a giant cyborg robot), and Starlike (essentially a stand-in for Starfire). The Female and The Boys kill most of the team, as a bubble-blowing Supe named Gumchum offers everyone a piece of gum throughout the battle.
It's pretty hilarious to see Gumchum offer The Boys and Team Titanic a piece of gum as a deadly fight unfolds around him. The hero's power is literally asking people if they'd like gum, making him one of the most absurd and worst Supes in the entire series. It seems Ennis wanted to parody heroes who had useless, singular powers. But, in Gumchum's chase, his uselessness appears to help him, as he survives the fight as his gum offerings seem to have bought him some goodwill.
Gumchum doesn't do anything else in the series besides off his fellow Supes gum. It's his sole purpose. He might be the worst hero in of powers and abilities in The Boys, as he's effectively useless in battle. Still, something is endearing about Gumchum's harmless nature and focus on getting gum into the hands of his fellow Supes. The Boys television series, and non-comic readers can see how silly the character really is.
