"Master class in pacing" *my a--* ! I'm sorry, but season two is such a cop-out. We were *robbed* of *four seasons* of plot that got *squashed* in to just one, and *it shows* !
The pacing is *way off* , there's too many plot gaps, too many inconsistencies, too many things we just have to figure-out ourselves rather than get told or *shown* etc etc etc.
Its *very* clear that a bunch of stuff was cut. There have been several examples of plots that seem to be building to something and then *nothing happens* and we are just expected to accept it and move on. For example, the stolen ship, or the attack that Saw was planning.
I was heartbroken when the massacre happened, but *not because I cared about the characters* . We *didn't even know* the Ghorman rebels! Can you honestly any of their names? I know I can't. They had very, *very* little screen time and *no character development whatsoever* , sorry. So, the massacre was a punch in the stomach, yes, but only because it was countless innocent, unarmed people being lambs to the slaughter in an enclosed space, reminiscent of *IRL events* in the past. Not because I gave a fudge about the characters whose names I don't even . Heck, we didn't even get to see the rebellion there *grow* or what the Empire was doing, *how things got to that point* . We were expected to just fill in the gaps, use our imaginations, and occasionally a character would say something that hinted at something that had happened in the past year... I'm sorry, but that's *not good enough* !
They even retconned K2SO's origin, which was apparently *completely different* in the books. And what happened to Cassion's family droid? And will we ever learn what the dealeo was with the Empire and Cassian's planet? Why his people were only children? What happened to his sister? What happened to the Andy Serkis character who couldn't swim? Etc etc etc.
🙄 You're joking, right? "With their wallets" like the franchise isn't still making *billions of dollars in profits every year* 🤦🏻♀🤣
Disney's Star Wars is more successful, has more fans, makes more profit than George's Star Wars ever did (granted times have changed since the 90s, which is *definitely* a factor in that)!
*Millions* of kids and young adults (gen-a & gen-z) like me *grew-up* with DSW and that was our *introduction* to a franchise that we might not have ever even heard of let-alone *seen* and been a fan of, otherwise!
Star Wars isn't dead. It's *stronger* now than it's ever been. I'm sorry you and older generations don't like it, but you still have six other films, the OG Clone Wars anime, and the "Legends" books comics and games to enjoy. No one is *forcing* you to watch DSW's content.
You're allowed to dislike DSW, but please don't kid yourself that the franchise is "dead" because *it isn't* . It's also just plain mean & #NOTCOOL to younger fans like myself when you act like we don't exist nor matter.
The irony here is that the "EU"/"Legends" was erased from canon because of how inconsistent and convoluted it had become. Their plan was to keep a tight ship, to make sure all their stories had intricate continuity. And it worked! Until they screwed-over Ashoka like this :-( It's one of my favourite Star Wars books of all time ("EU" included), so this was a big punch in the gut.
I'm sorry, but number 2 doesn't belong on this list. That twist/reveal ruined the movie. I was forced to watch them all with my bestie who was obsessed with them haha and the movies aren't very good (but they have their moments), but that sequence with the huge battle was incredible and by far the best part of the entire movie franchise... And then they took it all back and revealed it was a ruddy dream! None of it happened! I was so miffed! It could have been an amazing ending, but if was ruined imo.
The alternative ending ideas are really great, and some are much more Lovecraftian. For instance, in one of the considered endings, Cthulhu won! He is released into the world... Of course, in the post-credits scene, it is revealed that the company is going to keep digging, so they clearly hoped to do a sequel, and Cthulhu clearly didn't die.
Honestly, right from that opening sequence in episode one, I was getting Nihil vibes. Then he used The Force and I'm like "please please pleeeease be a distant distant relative of the Nihil leaders!!!" because they, too, were Force wielders... I love love love your theory and cannot wait to see if we get any more High Republic connections!
You got the Captain's name wrong, though. His name was Rennod. But that's Donner spelt backwards, so you got it wrong in a sorta-right way? Lol
Millions of people love all three of those additions to the franchise. Just because you and plenty of others (probably also millions lol) don't, it doesn't mean there isn't a market for it.
The sequel were my childhood! My introduction to the franchise. So although they are faulty AF lol they aren't any less faulty than the prequels, and they were my first foray in to the world of Star Wars, so they'll always be close to my heart, in a way. It's the same (or similar) for plenty of gen-z adults.
Millennial and older adults don't seem to like the new stuff, and that sux, but your presumption that everyone hates it is just daft. The sequels were a huge success and High Republic, too. The Acolyte has a dedicated fan base, but is generally a huge failure, though haha.
Thanks for sharing! 😀 I am intrigued by your "take" and might actually watch it when it comes to streaming, now.
I am curious whether you have read the LotR Appendices, where this story comes from? That is likely to have an impact on enjoyment. And do you normally like anime? Thanks in-advance for considering answering my questions ❤
/Sigh you're really just reducing this down to that one attribute? There are lots of reasons for this to be a failure.
- Rings Of Power. A lot of franchise fans are feeling disillusioned by that adaptation and are having a "fool me once..." outlook.
- Peter Jackson's involvement is not really known by many people. His name is barely noticeable on most of the promos (baaaad choice by the marketing team, there), for instance.
- It's an anime. Most people don't care for anime. It's a very niche thing. Besides, even the anime fans I have seen that have commented on the trailer say they hate this style lol
- Very little marketing at all,to be honest. The amount of "wait, there's a new LotR movie?!" comments I have seen is ridiculous. I only found-out about it via Critical Drinker & hits mates a couple of months ago when the trailer came out and they did a live reaction to it.
- Differentiation from the source material. It's not just that she's a "girl boss". Tolkien has girl bosses. Peter Jackson even converted Arwen to be more of a girl boss because he realised there wasn't enough female representation in the first book(/movie). She took the role of a male character when she saved the hobbits by using elf majick to save their butts from the riders. It's that she's a basically non-existent girl boss that is the issue, here. If she'd been in the dang books for more than, like, two sentences, if she'd even had a blasted name then maybe people wouldn't mind. But boy, do we mind...
- It's an obscure story from a part of the books that only the big fans read; the appendixes. Most people I know never bothered with them. Most publications of LotR don't even include them and only have the main books and nothing else.
- Like the article said, these are completely new characters. Going back to my previous bullet points, a lot of people have never even heard of them (bar brief mention/s in the original movies, and the main books).
Alas, it is canon. Peter Jackson has said as such. He Produced this pile of nonsense, and it takes place in the same continuity as his six other movies, as well as the Gollum one. There's even a weird introduction to the movie which features characters from his LotR trilogy in-order to "set the stage" or whatevs. /Sigh...
Did you not read the article? In the LotR movies, Sauron didn't have a physical body, which was *contrary to the books* , so what the article is saying is that one thing RoP does well is Sauron having a body, and that's what they suggest this new movie "copy"; but it isn't really copying, because it's like that in the books.

I watched Smallville for the first time last year. I'm gen-z, so I didn't grow-up with this like a lot of the fans of this show did... And I've gotta say, it didn't age well, sorry... Lex *groomed* Lana, for a start! He *desired* her when she was, like, fifteen, and he was twenty-two. Ew. And that's just *one* of the problems. I mean, I still had fun with it! But they'll really, really need to fix some of those rather inappropriate things if they do a sequel because there's no way today's audience would tolerate that. I mean, maybe the peeps who grew-up with it will still adore it, regardless, though. Nostalgia and sweet, sweet obliviousness haha!
From reading this article, I am gathering that the Lexx and Clark actors are pitching the idea, talking to Producers, writers, etc, but nothing is confirmed yet. But I could be wrong.
There are *tonnes* of comic books set in the Smallville continuity. They're kinda hard to come-by these days, but they are on the DC Universe Unlimited app, if you are interested. Apparently they are really good!
I am sorry you do not like the show, but plenty of people do. This is reflected in the fact that it the most successful show Amazon Studios has ever made. But, "each to their own", as-they-say.
For me, personally, I enjoyed the movies but I was annoyed by their many, many inaccuracies to the source material, and it's the same, here. This show is no less faithful to the books than those movies were. Especially the "Hobbit trilogy", which is just a disgrace to book fans, but is apparently really cool and fun for movie fans.
All that said, this article is a very balanced one. The person who wrote it mentions multiple tines that the show differs from the source material, that some of those changes are frustrating, etc. Why you thought this was entirely positive, I've no idea. It isn't.

Rings Of Power Season 2 Showrunners Cautiously Address Whether Tom Bombadil Is Middle-Earth's God
