I totally agree.

This is my favourite TOS episode. And I always thought Joan Collins was so amazing in it.

I'll watch this episode at least once a year. And I got my kids to watch it too. LOL.

There is an audio book for The City on the Edge of Forever that has a recording of Harlan Ellison talking about some of the things that was in his version versus the version that aired. Hearing him talk about those points I could see how it would go against Gene Roddenberry's vision of Starfleet. Ellison's version would have been more edgy and shockful. But I think the final version is amazing. It fully stretched the souls of the characters to their limits and kept me on the edge of my seat with a powerful and gut wrenching story. I mean, it must have been good, it won a Hugo! :)

I just re-watched this movie last month, and totally enjoyed it.

This was after finishing reading the four books in Star Trek's "The Lost Years" series that covered what the TOS crew was up to between TOS and TMP. As soon as I finished the last book, I was so in the mood to watch TMP again.

I think, if you are into the TOS crew, then this movie does not seem dated at all. Stylewise it perfectly fits between TOS and the rest of the TOS movies. And IMHO it held up really well. I mean . . . as a Star Trek TOS fan, the idea of wondering if this movie was "dated" hadn't even crossed my mind.

And as far as the fly by around the Enterprise, yes, it was long . . . but I enjoyed it. LOL. :)

I've only seen a bit of the season 3 trailer. My initial thought about the retro episode was, "This could be fun."

I was thinking maybe it would be referencing older shows like Tom Corbett Space Cadet. If so, someone would post about the different references, and I'd Google the references and learn more about an old show / story and I'd be pulled down the rabbit hole learning about these old shows. LOL.

My other thought is SNW is an anthology of different writers and stories, like "The Science Fiction Hall of Fame" series of anthology books.

You get treated to different ideas and writing styles.

Of course, there may be an episode here and there that you don't connect with, but IMHO this is a great way to explore Sci-Fi as you never know what's going to happen next. :)

For me, Subspace Rhapsody was one of my favourite episodes.

Of course, I don't necessarily want an opera episode per season, especially if there is only going to be 10 episodes per season.

But, I don't mind, and kinda want at least 1 "out there" episode per season. For season 1 I would consider that episode the "The Elysian Kingdom" episode.

For TNG that might have been something like "The Inner Light".

The Elysian Kingdom, Subspace Rhapsody and The Inner Light are among my favourite episodes.

Maybe this retro episode in season 3 counts as that "out there" episode? LOL. :)
