The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
If they changed the name of the show and every location and every character and made no claim to Tolkien, it would be a decent series. However, claiming this is anything other than Tolkien based fan fiction is a fallacy. The many changes to lore, character asassinations, timelines, relationships and key points make it impossible to take seriously as anything to do with Tolkien. Yes, changes happen making books into films or series but this isn’t even close. I did my best to watch with an open mind but I can’t. The only plus to me? They got Bombadil and the Ents/Ent wives right. Most of the rest is just unforgivable. Thank God they didn’t get permission for the Silm.

See All10 Harsh Realities HBO's Harry Potter Remake Can't Avoid
How closely they stick to the source material (and not the video game ffs) and how they cast it will determine for me. These 2 things drove me away from ROP after 50 years of loving the source material and will do the same with this if they screw it up.
The True Nature Of Galadriel & Elrond's Relationship In The Lord Of The Rings Explained
Elrond has been my favorite character and the series my favorite books since I was 6 years old. That’s 58 years. This show has done nothing right with Elrond for me and this is the first of many reasons I won’t watch anymore and hope it literally just fails and goes away.
Every Actor Rumored For The Harry Potter TV Remake’s Cast
Adam Driver as Snape snd Tom Felton as Lucius would at least drive me to give this a try.
Who The Rings Of Power's Barrow-Wights Were Before They Died
The problem is, this is a totally incorrect rearranging of actual Tolkien lore. During the time this show is set, there were no barrow wights yet.
The Barrow-wights began appearing in the Barrow-downs after the Dunedain of Cardolan died due to the ravages of the Great Plague and the Witch King of Angmar laid waste to Cardolan. In the time of ROP, Cardolan didn’t even exist yet, it was founded in TA 861. Then, in TA 1409, Angmar laid waste to Cardolan and the Witch King set the wights up in the Barrows to discourage the Dunedain from resettling the region. This is one of many complete disregards for the most basic of Tolkien lore.
