How closely they stick to the source material (and not the video game ffs) and how they cast it will determine for me. These 2 things drove me away from ROP after 50 years of loving the source material and will do the same with this if they screw it up.

Elrond has been my favorite character and the series my favorite books since I was 6 years old. That’s 58 years. This show has done nothing right with Elrond for me and this is the first of many reasons I won’t watch anymore and hope it literally just fails and goes away.

The problem is, this is a totally incorrect rearranging of actual Tolkien lore. During the time this show is set, there were no barrow wights yet.

The Barrow-wights began appearing in the Barrow-downs after the Dunedain of Cardolan died due to the ravages of the Great Plague and the Witch King of Angmar laid waste to Cardolan. In the time of ROP, Cardolan didn’t even exist yet, it was founded in TA 861. Then, in TA 1409, Angmar laid waste to Cardolan and the Witch King set the wights up in the Barrows to discourage the Dunedain from resettling the region. This is one of many complete disregards for the most basic of Tolkien lore.
