2021's edition of Ubisoft Forward held a showcase for themed after the 2018 Winter Olympics) and a thriving player base, leading the publisher to return to the mountain and add even more sports onto the pile.
Riders Republic has already been the subject of several Ubisoft showcases, including one in September 2020 that confirmed a release on both current and last-gen consoles as well as PC and Google Stadia. Players also saw arcade-style action that matches with what Steep brought to the slope, a focus on the national parks that will serve as the "Republic" in the game's title, and a promise of extensive through post-launch DLC. This showing announced a February 2021 release date, but Riders Republic was instead delayed in January. fans have waited until now to find out more info about this anticipated sports title.
Ubisoft Forward's new footage from Riders Republic showcased even more of the extreme sports action with a unique Ubisoft spin. The gameplay demo focused on a team-based mode where players pull tricks to capture specific ramps and get points. It also featured 64 player races with multiple types of vehicles. It's a lot of variety, and it all comes to consoles and PC on September 2 of this year. Players eager to hit the track before that can log on to the official website and sign up for multiple rounds of betas.
Thanks to prior showings of Riders Republic, players already know that they'll be able to jump into massive 64 player events across all the national parks featured in the game. There's a full career mode and multiplayer events to enjoy, all taking place in a seamless open world. This new reveal included a look at first-person biking gameplay as well as district capture modes with teams of extreme sports riders. It also showed a variety of off-kilter vehicles, including everything from jet-powered wingsuits to ice cream carts to pack mule-style two-wheelers. It's a huge amount of content for this type of game, but it seems like the team at Ubisoft Annecy has it all well in hand.
It seems that Riders Republic takes the irable revival of arcade sports games that Steep started to a whole new level. A colorful neon-infused color scheme, more sports, and an over-the-top style all come together to bring some life back to a genre known mostly for annualized franchises and roster updates. With the sheer number of vehicles already on display, extreme sports enthusiasts will have activities to enjoy for months after launch. The final product is yet to come, and it seems to have a lot of ambition built-in. However, Riders Republic already feels like something new and different from Ubisoft, and that's rad.
