When trying to pick out the best Star Wars movie based on ratings from Screen Rant, it can be difficult. Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe or some other franchises, Screen Rant wasn't around for the entire series. In fact, of the 12 theatrically released movies, Screen Rant has only been able to review eight of them.
The ones not included are the original trilogy of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, and 2002's Attack of the Clones. Every other installment has been covered by this website and the ones that scored the highest might come as a surprise to some fans.
The Phantom Menace (2.5 Stars)
Technically, Screen Rant wasn't reviewing movies when Episode I - in 2012 was covered. Unlike the rest of the entries on this list, this review was more focused on the 3D theater experience.
The coverage of the film didn't choose to repeat the well-documented issues like cheesy Anakin Skywalker and underwhelming backstories since those have covered a ton. Ultimately, the 3D wasn't considered to be great enough to warrant the trip unless you were already a huge fan.
The Clone Wars (2.5 Stars)
The least famous of the theatrical releases in the franchise, The Clone Wars arrived in 2008. The idea here was to deliver an animated take on this universe between Episodes II and III while also acting as a way to kickstart the popular television series of the same name.
The animation style, voice work of Samuel L. Jackson and Christopher Lee, and some of the action sequences went on to become a fan favorite after several years.
The Rise Of Skywalker (3 Stars)
There was immense pressure on ending the Skywalker Saga in a satisfying way. 2019's The Rise of Skywalker had to do that while also trying to right the ship of the previous entry, which was disliked by some diehard fans. The biggest issue with the sequel trilogy is that they don't really work together as three cohesive stories.
Indeed, the their chemistry together was considered the high point.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (3.5 Stars)
2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story felt like one of those movies that nobody ever needed. Han Solo is a character who didn't require a deeper dive into his backstory. However, the film was made and ultimately proved to be a pretty fun ride for those who checked it out.
The Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, who was seen as the standout.
Revenge Of The Sith (3.5 Stars)
The earliest review on Screen Rant of any Star Wars flick came in 2005 with Episode III - the Screen Rant review furthers that notion.
Although this was said to be far from perfect, it rose far above its predecessors. Hayden Christensen was better, the dynamic between Anakin and Obi-Wan didn't feel forced, and a lot of the action worked. There were disappointments in Pé's death and the way that some loose ends were tied together.
The Force Awakens (4 Stars)
There was an incredible amount of hype surrounding due to how it juggled nostalgia with introducing new and interesting characters.
The Force Awakens was positively reviewed on Screen Rant for things like the set pieces and the performances of the young actors. However, the lack of development for some of the villains besides Kylo Ren was criticized, as was the way that so much was left unanswered due to wanting to save it for later installments.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (4 Stars)
In the eyes of many fans, the Screen Rant review suggests, it worked on several levels.
Telling the story of the team that attained the plans to blow up the Death Star, it gave fans a look at an era they hadn't seen often. There were big action scenes, some nods to the history of the franchise, and characters who fans would want to see again (like Cassian Andor, who is getting his own Disney+ series). It helps to have a talented cast including Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen, and more. Plus, who doesn't love the Darth Vader scene at the end?
The Last Jedi (4.5 Stars)
There is no question that Judging by the review, Screen Rant is on the side of considering it to be truly great.
The high stakes were appreciated as the movie felt grand in every way. Despite that, it was the character drama and little moments, especially between Kylo Ren and Rey, that got the most praise. The review even liked the performance of the talented Kelly Marie Tran, when a lot of fans didn't. The only real gripe listed was that it didn't use all of its cast to the fullest extent.
