It is unlikely the Star Wars fandom will ever be in a stable enough state to near enough universally agree on any aspect of the sequel trilogy in of something positive. It is the most divisive and controversial piece of content in the forty-plus year history of the iconic franchise with so much to love, but also so much to get frustrated by.
The trilogy is unbelievably disted, and due to this, so many storylines become muddled and unclear; some even got ruined entirely. There are still a series of great storylines that take place in the movies, that while not perfect, do the job.
Leia's Leadership & Fortitude
Due to the heartbreaking death of the legendary Carrie Fisher, her role in the trilogy was a bit forced into place with technology. However, she still has a significant impact and retains a lot of her brilliance.
In this trilogy alone, greatest inspirations.
The Underdog Resistance
Speaking of the Resistance and their heart, just like the Rebel Alliance before then, the Resistance eventually defeated their tyrannical enemies but had a much lower chance.
The Resistance quickly depleted throughout the trilogy and left the people of the Galaxy without hope. While many have a hard time with the trilogy, the simple story of the underdog good guys defeating the Goliath enemies is always a classic one, even if it can get done better.
General Poe Dameron (& Finn)
Poe had a very rocky journey throughout the trilogy, with his story getting lost in the shuffle sometimes, becoming a victim of the trilogy's distedness.
Nevertheless, his story is still good, as he learns what it means to be a leader, with the entire arc resting on its ending when he asks his friend Finn to become a General alongside him, itting he cannot do it alone. That moment is one of the trilogy's best.
Finn Becoming A Part Of Something Bigger
Speaking of Finn, he is perhaps the biggest victim of the trilogy's issue with consistency, and maybe even the biggest victim of the lack of plan Disney had going into the trilogy.
However, while the execution became a bit murky, Finn no longer running, becoming more selfless, ing the Resistance, and truly learning what is right and wrong in the Galaxy while finding his place in it all rather than being shackled to his past as a stormtrooper is still a great storyline.
Luke's Realization
Moving on to the trilogy's most divisive and controversial aspect, Luke Skywalker's arc in The Last Jedi is total brilliance to many fans, especially with how Luke ends it, even if he did not need to die there and then.
Luke, finally realizing that he must do something, and that Rey, Chewbacca, Artoo, Yoda, and everyone else are all right and he cannot stay on Ach-To forever, that he must face his mistake and help the Galaxy is extremely well done, with Mark Hamill at his absolute best. His final moments with Leia, then Kylo, then sitting looking out onto the twin suns, are emotional and exceptional.
Rey Finding Her Place
Similar to Finn but in a far more coherent way, Rey also spends this trilogy on a personal journey trying to find her place in the Galaxy, as well as who she is.
While the eventual re-revelation of her identity was disappointing, Rey's arc of finding her place in the Galaxy held up well as she found her way to not only the Resistance and to the Force, but to a family who loves her and who she loves.
Kylo's Torn Nature
Kylo Ren is the best character consistently, helped immensely by Adam Driver, the best actor in the franchise since Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan from the prequels.
Kylo's storyline of being incredibly torn throughout the trilogy is done very well, in large part due to Driver. Throughout two movies he becomes The Rise Of Skywalker undoes what gets set up for the character in The Last Jedi, his redemption was still well done, with Ben Solo instantly becoming a fan favorite alongside Kylo.
Found Family
There are core themes that find themselves running through most pieces of Star Wars content, with the idea of family, mostly found family, being one of the most prominent.
Rey, Finn, and Poe are all without parents by the time of the trilogy, and along with BB-8, Threepio, Chewbacca, even Artoo, and Leia, as well as other Resistance heroes, they become a family, who will likely go on many an adventure in the future.
Han's Return
There has been no time better to be a Star Wars fan than in the build-up to The Force Awakens, and to this day that film has the greatest trailer the franchise has ever seen, made by the simple line "Chewie, we're home."
Harrison Ford is fantastic in the movie, and seeing him return to the fold in the Resistance is a joy to watch. Seeing the rascal with a heart of gold go after his son for the woman he loves is so in line with the character and just solidified further how fantastic the character is. His death was heartbreaking for so many, and the character's final appearance in The Rise Of Skywalker was one of the very best scenes in the trilogy.
Rey & Kylo's Dyad
The consistently best aspect of the trilogy is the relationship between Rey and Kylo, with just about every scene between the two is absolute gold.
Their dyad in the Force was so interesting. Their development throughout The Last Jedi as they discover their connection is excellent, and how they remain enemies despite having some special type of care for one another, whether it is romantic or not, is incredibly enjoyable, as they dominate the screen together and grow in each movie.
